The only thing that should be killing a transmuter as it is right now is himself.
Short of a lich or uber powered/charged AP, the only reason a transmuter should lose is if they make stupid mistakes, ala forgetting spiderhands and/or not wording/carrying a return/teleport stave or wand, as seen in the log posted previously. I would expect to see an increase in transmuter numbers as Grippledank continues posting logs and showing the ease with which he is able to pick people off (chameleon and duo being a pretty sick combo). Despite what some people are saying about him only picking off new players, on the contrary, he's fought and killed a number of very skilled players.
Whether or not he has any moral compunction regarding ganging/jumping into fights and killing off already weakened enemies is open for debate, and he's certainly utilized the game mechanics and circumstance to his advantage, but at the end of the day, the class is ridiculously overpowered. Consider:
the limited amount of preps required for a mage class
the ability to sneak up on virtually any opponent without risk of being pulled out of hiding
the ability to distribute both perma lag and vast amounts of damage
the general lack of equipment protecting against the spells. (Yes, there are some preps, and some items designed to protect against this class, but the average player isn't going to have the slightest clue where to find them).
the ability to out-melee fighting class opponents (often without even having to slow them down, courtesy of accelerate)
He's essentially an assassin with slow motion assassinate and the ability to go virtually everywhere while hidden, instead of only city tiles and some foresty areas.
He can be killed, but short of his opponents knowing to always be prepared for him (and I've seen few who are) his pk numbers should reflect that some changes need to be made.
Be happy he isn't a scion with despoil, considering he rarely uses barrier (that I have seen) and is fisting almost everything that moves.
