This isn't about tactics/me dying/me complaining.
I just found this log entertaining from the perspective of *reaction time*.
Premise: Me & Nep were unaware of each other. Assuming our roundtrip
times to the mud server are similar, we both had the same amount of
time to react. (= Me to input flee, him to input trip)
Now, there is this thing called an average human reaction time for
*expected* stimulus. Let's be generous and say that 200ms (that's 0.2s)
is a good approximation in both our cases.
Here is an online test you can do to find out *your* reaction time:
[

Again, this is for *expected* stimulus, no thinking involved which is not the
case here as the premise says that we both had no way of expecting
each other. So in our case, there is *mental processing time* involved,
on top of the basic *reaction time*.
What is a good approximation for this? Well there are various sources online
with tests and experiments done and the results are almost always in the order
of *several seconds*, for totally unexpected stimuli.
If you time a combat round, you will find it takes ~2.5-3 seconds.
Let's say it takes 3 seconds. The window of time that someone has, to input
a command, then becomes:
3 - network_roundtrip/2 - (reaction_time + mental_processing_time)
which as you can see gets smaller the more mental_processing_time grows.
So given all of that, I am simply saying that neps mental_processing_time
is impressive and in this case, obviously was a lot better than mine :-)
