The point is if you play an evil character, that you chose to play, you are role playing badly by not being evil, selfish etc. If you want to play an evil character that turns to the light, you would need a significant set of circumstances in order for that process to even begin, you would have to have reasons to fundamentally change their entire ethos from one side to the opposite.
