The problem that I have with that...

September 29, 2013 10:21PM
Is that if there isn't some sort of extra-terrestrial society that cares about moral decisions, then we'll eventually create it. If there isn't a soul, eventually science will allow us to create a lingering representation of ourselves that isn't dependant on our bodies for thought/emotion/hope/etc to continue. If we can't live forever, then eventually we'll figure out how to.

To me it's not so hard to believe that someone or something has been around long enough to do all that before we did, or that we're a subset of "uninitialized" cosmic culture.

If children where not indoctrinated into any religious faith, and taught critical thinking skills. . .

ghuljun_thul September 28, 2013 04:45AM

Yes (n/t)

Saa October 06, 2013 05:44AM

I agree. There's always someone.

DurNominator(VIP) October 06, 2013 09:23AM

On a slight tangent I think religion causes problems in places it doesn't have to

Rade October 01, 2013 09:28AM

As a religious person...

chuntog October 04, 2013 02:17AM

The answer is self preservation of the system really

Rade October 07, 2013 08:39AM

The problem that I have with that...

(vಠ_ಠ)> AngryFatKid September 29, 2013 10:21PM

Yes

chuntog September 29, 2013 02:13AM

I could spend as much time writing about the Wheel of Time's layers of meaning as the Bible's

vortexmagus September 29, 2013 03:15PM

I'm not sure what you're saying

chuntog September 29, 2013 04:56PM

He's saying that there are plenty of good books out there.

DurNominator(VIP) September 29, 2013 06:08PM

Where are you getting your facts? (n/t)

tesline September 29, 2013 04:15PM

I think most of the Bible is pretty poorly written.

wrathpuppet September 29, 2013 05:25AM

Why yes, I think they would. They would probably regard them as slightly above, say, the fantasy novels you read for modern social commentary though. (n/t)

Scrimbul September 28, 2013 03:04PM

yes. nt

Isildur(VIP) September 28, 2013 12:47PM

Well it's just as good as showing children the big bang theory vs 25 years olds.

tesline September 28, 2013 09:38AM

Sure, and most rational people would accept it as dominant scientific explanation (n/t)

cenatar September 29, 2013 12:33PM

Yes and in the past the most dominant theories were that the world was flat and that the sun revolved around the earth.

tesline September 29, 2013 04:20PM

And when evidence was given otherwise those theories changed. Christianity, among others, still believes the Earth is only a few thousand years old. (n/t)

Matrik September 29, 2013 06:03PM

This is misleading. Most Christians don't believe that. Know your extremists. Those are Creationists. Some people also worship satan and some people believe their dogs are talking to them and their teeth pick up CIA conversations. (n/t)

tesline September 29, 2013 06:14PM

No. Those are Christians. What you are is someone afraid of death. (n/t)

Matrik September 29, 2013 06:28PM

In science, you don't shouldn't believe anything religiously. (n/t)

DurNominator(VIP) September 29, 2013 05:20PM

True but some people do which impedes progress. (n/t)

tesline September 29, 2013 05:22PM

No, it's really not.

vortexmagus September 28, 2013 11:24PM

A swing and a miss.

tesline September 29, 2013 01:50AM

Christianity is the largest single religion, but it's far from the only one which oppresses gay people or justifies atrocity.

vortexmagus September 29, 2013 01:00PM

You're just making stuff up

chuntog September 30, 2013 12:10AM

You keep using extremists as a way to validate your argument.

tesline September 29, 2013 04:10PM

Wrong. Check your facts. The Pope and by extension the Vatican has spent decades campaigning against gay people.

vortexmagus September 29, 2013 05:46PM

Read up on the current Pope you might be surprised the direction the Catholic church is going in. Yes and in America WE USED to allow slavery. We don't now. Right now the Church is moving toward tolerance and hopefully acceptance.

tesline September 29, 2013 05:56PM

No?

Batman October 01, 2013 04:11AM

Of course there is Zero chance of the next pope pissing all over this.

ghuljun_thul September 30, 2013 06:31PM

That would directly contradict many tenets espoused in the bible, and would be, as I understand it, heresy.

vortexmagus September 29, 2013 06:45PM

I don't think you understand

chuntog October 01, 2013 02:50AM

So I know I'm late with this, Chuntog

Dalbrin October 01, 2013 01:06PM

Why outside the Bible? (Edited: oops)

PaulO October 01, 2013 01:18PM

No, I don't think you understand.

Batman October 01, 2013 04:33AM

I do

chuntog October 01, 2013 05:34AM

It's okay, we're all horrible people.

Batman October 01, 2013 05:49AM

You don't understand.

chuntog October 01, 2013 06:58AM

Oh, okay. (n/t)

Batman October 03, 2013 04:24AM

I also don't understand.

wrathpuppet October 01, 2013 04:23AM

Now you're on to something

chuntog October 01, 2013 05:28AM

Why do you go to church on Sunday instead of the Sabbath? (n/t)

PaulO October 01, 2013 01:27PM

Could you explain this further?

vortexmagus October 01, 2013 12:54PM

A bit, I suppose

chuntog October 02, 2013 02:18AM

But don't you get off the hook easily?

wrathpuppet October 01, 2013 06:45AM

Re: But don't you get off the hook easily?

chuntog October 01, 2013 06:54AM

See, it's just more picking and choosing from where I sit.

wrathpuppet October 01, 2013 07:05AM

Serve the LORD with fear and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the son, lest he be angry, and you perish from the way, for his wrath is quickly kindled

Artificial September 29, 2013 06:50PM

You're joking, right? The bible commands you to kill homosexuals! If you're pro gay marriage as a christian, sorry, you're a shitty christian, but you've shown you're a more moral person than the god of your bible. (n/t)

Artificial September 29, 2013 04:22PM

No my religion does not tell me to kill gays. The old Catholic church did believe this and they ,I am sure you can agree with this, altered the bible at several points to suit their own agenda. (n/t)

tesline September 29, 2013 04:27PM

Ah, okay, I'll bet the parts about how to own other people as slaves were added too, right? (n/t)

Artificial September 29, 2013 04:38PM

No I'll admit that was in there to begin with. It was how society was. (n/t)

tesline September 29, 2013 04:50PM

That isn't an acceptable answer. God is eternal and unchanging. If his word is that it is acceptable, then it is, no matter what the times and society are like. (n/t)

Artificial September 29, 2013 04:52PM

Again as any christian could tell you ,I'm sure your aware of this, that the bible was a book written by man and will inevitably have the same flaws and biases.

tesline September 29, 2013 05:06PM

Jesus supported slavery as well. Slaves, obey your masters.

Artificial September 29, 2013 05:08PM

You might believe that but it is historically believed that he did and there is more proof that he existed than a good portion of other historical figures. (n/t)

tesline September 29, 2013 05:11PM

Zero contemporary evidence. It doesn't matter how he compares to anyone else. (n/t)

Artificial September 29, 2013 05:35PM

Do you not consider Paul a contemporary? (n/t)

PaulO October 01, 2013 08:51PM

Paul was not a contemporary of jesus. (n/t)

Artificial October 05, 2013 02:34PM

The absence of proof isn't the proof of absence. Even if he didn't exist he made a bigger difference in the world than you or I will ever make. (n/t)

tesline September 29, 2013 06:00PM

Sure, it isn't proof of absence. But having a close personal relationship with reality means not accepting claims until evidence is provided. (n/t)

Artificial September 29, 2013 06:47PM

Yes in the same sense 90% of people before a thousand years ago didn't exist either. Since there isn't any evidence they existed. I mean there is bones but that doesn't proof they existed by name. It just shows there was people. (n/t)

tesline September 29, 2013 06:52PM

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. I'll believe there was a person with a name who lived 2000 years or more ago. I'll need more than a skeleton to believe miraculous claims. (n/t)

Artificial September 29, 2013 07:02PM

I never claimed that is what happened. All I was saying was he existed. (n/t)

tesline September 29, 2013 07:29PM

Lets assume someone named jesus existed. There is exactly zero reason to believe anything at all about him. He could have been a pedophile rapist (like muhammad!). In fact, he was much more likely to have been, than the nonsense stories told of him in  (n/t)

Artificial September 29, 2013 07:54PM

Let's all just agree that God doesn't exist. the bible is bullshit, and you're all insane.

Randomguy September 29, 2013 06:56PM

90% of Christians support gay rights? I very much doubt this. (n/t)

wrathpuppet September 29, 2013 04:15PM

Apparently I live deep within the 10%. (n/t)

ghuljun_thul September 29, 2013 05:15PM

Re: Well it's just as good as showing children the big bang theory vs 25 years olds.

Re: Gross Food Dreams.

wrathpuppet September 28, 2013 02:37PM

Eww who the hell mixes cheddar cheese with human skin?

tesline September 28, 2013 07:03PM

I understand and people have good reason to dislike religion.

tesline September 28, 2013 02:04PM

My only objection is to organized religion, as it gets too easy to subvert the rules for personal gain in larger groups. I'm not naieve enough to begrudge their right to gather though. (n/t)

Scrimbul September 28, 2013 03:06PM

They would choose Matrikulation. (n/t)

Matrik September 28, 2013 08:20AM

Isn't that when a girl punches you in the face while steping on your dick? Sicko. (n/t)

Frosty September 28, 2013 08:33AM

Scientology (n/t)

Elystan September 28, 2013 06:44AM

... is a pyramid scheme with celebrity endorsements. (n/t)

sevriis September 28, 2013 07:25AM

Yes and No.

wrathpuppet September 28, 2013 06:16AM

Agreed. The answer to fairy tales isn't ignorance, but ridicule. (n/t)

Artificial September 28, 2013 06:59AM

Why?

chuntog September 29, 2013 02:15AM

Re: Why?

ghuljun_thul September 29, 2013 05:43AM

You sure about that?

chuntog September 29, 2013 05:48AM

The catholic church can blow me. (n/t)

ghuljun_thul September 29, 2013 06:01AM

Thankfully
