Is that in reality, there are so many guns in circulation that even if these nutjobs did get these half-assed gun bills passed..it would truly do dick all.
I'll use myself as an example.
I live in NY, one of the states with the strictest gun laws (fuck you Cuomo). That having been said, I own 10 firearms.
I only ever purchased two of such said firearms, the rest were handed down to me from my grandfather. They are his hunting rifles (and damn nice ones I might add). On paper, I only own 2 firearms, and the federal/state paperwork will reflect that.
My grandfather purchased his firearms (that are now in my possession) prior to 1975 (In fact, one of them is a bicentennial edition Ruger #1 which is the last he purchased)
He bought these prior to any kind of database/record keeping/etc. Back then, he could've likely ordered these through the mail. In NY state it is 100% legal for me to gift any of these firearms, at any time to a family member without paperwork (the exception being, it would be illegal if I KNEW that they could not obtain one on their own...good luck proving that)
So, I myself a law-abiding citizen am in possession of 8 firearms (few of them semi-automatic) that have no paper trail, nor any way for my state gov't or the federal gov't to know I am in possession of them. I possess them 100% legally, as per the laws as they were written at the time that these came into my possession (In fact, upon receipt my grandad actually wrote me a receipt with serial #'s stating that he'd given them to me..just "in case").
My point:
There is no way in hell people are going to "hand in" their firearms in this country. And,I'd almost argue that there are more firearms out there WITHOUT a paper trail, than there are with.
Best of luck with your gun control agenda.
