Help with choosing a coding language for an app

November 20, 2014 06:23PM
Hey,

I want to create a mobile app that simulates a 'graphical MUD' style of combat. Imagine CF, with different classes and abilities, and with loose animations. It would be a turn-based fighting game, something like Pokemon with far more detail.

Assuming I haven't lost you or enraged you yet, for those with experience or knowledge, what platforms or languages would you recommend for a coding beginner? Would you recommend a standalone language like Rails or Java to build from scratch, or would you recommend making use of a game design tool like GameSalad or RPGMaker?

Thanks in advance for answers from folks that have some sort of experience.

If you REALLY want to learn how to program, you'd have invented vim. n/t

There's going to be a huge learning curve if you're not familiar with coding languages

Use that Jew language, so you'll make it in Hollywood. I think it's called Jewva. (n/t)

Haha. It's a work in progress! Btw. Do NOT try to use this software for anything serious.
