Okay so a few months ago I see that the local Big Brothers and Big Sisters chapter is having a charity poker tourney. It's a $200 buy in and the top finisher wins a big to the WSOP for 2008. I've been playing in a few local sattelites vying for a spot at our local WPT and for the WSOP. The odds aren't great that I'll win because it's not a normally structured sattellite and it's basically winner take all. At first I passed on the prospect because of the odds. But then I got to thinking...it's a charity event with bad odds. That means there are going to be a ton of bad players. I change my mind and register. Sure enough come tourney time I sitting down at a table with complete fish and newbs. No one understood the concept of betting more than the minimum or even how to properly bet (putting chips past the line) oh and the other thing. The table that I started at had no Asians (if you've ever played poker tourneys or play in card rooms you know how weird that sounds). So sure enough, I breeze through the field and end up at the final table with perhaps the only people at the tourney who knew how to play (and 7 out of the 10 were asian). I get down the top 4 and draw A/j suited in the small blind. I'm the second short stack but I still have a lot of play left so I stab at the pot which was pretty decent. Big blind goes all in (I have him covered by a little bit). I call. He has a/q suited. Flop hits nothing, same for turn and river. I get knocked out on A high queen kicker. Fuck me. I drew a consolation prize of only a 1000 which I just let the fucking charity keep. I was so fucking annoyed.
I know that no one cares. I just had to tell my (not bad) beat story.
