because here in Canada, the folky-rock thing is kinda overdone. Indie rock, alternative, what have you - it's all over here. the guys you're suggesting are great, not knocking them - you might like Joel Plaskett too, Broken Social Scene's more prominent but I don't know how much exposure they've gotten south..

Canada's suffering from a serious lack of promotion for electro and hip-hop artists. I'm not talking mainstream stuff, either, I agree with you on that point, but I also don't think electro's the greater problem that you're hinting that it is. Our music scene strongly promotes indie rock, they should do the same for guys like Wordburglar and the Rhythmicru.

the problem is record labels getting an idea of what sells into their head and then manufacturing tunes to reflect that, whether that's that "nu-rock" or "new country" sound, or bubblegum-coated hip-hop and R&B.
