I do a lot of mountain biking, but my favorite bike is from Specialized. They make rock solid frames and all around great bikes. Around a$1000 you can get a great bike. Take a look at this.

This bike is pretty amazing. It has the Specialized frame which is wicked strong and light. It also sports some great components. This one is $1200 but you might be able to find last years model or some such for sale somewhere.
