You, on the other hand, seem to love the rose colored glasses

How many Muslims have you talked to about Iraq? Before you tell me, I'll just say don't answer that - no average Muslim in his right mind is going to say what he actually thinks to a member of the US military.

You're going on as if the police are all thats to blame for the shit thats going down in Iraq: my answer is different - Its the USA thats to blame, we're the ones who decided to break the previous regime's power, therefore all that shit thats happening in Iraq right now? Its our responsibility. The thing is, you're assuming that if the police would do its job, everything would work out fine.

But that isn't it at all. Imagine if 1/3rd of the US army decided to pull a coup d'etat in our own country. The police, trained to deal with civil unrest and mostly equipped with riot gear and tear gas, would be trying to contain dissatisfied, organized squads with military-grade weapons and training. The remainder of the army/national guard would probably have to be mobilized to deal with this threat, but half of whatever's left would probably refuse to shoot American citizens or friends that they trained with, while the rest would be unenthusiastic to say the least.

This conflict is way bigger than something a police force can handle: it involves vendettas and blood feuds and hatreds/prejudices decades old, and no police force, especially one as divided and powerless as the setup in Iraq is, will make a serious dent in the driving forces behind the violence. You can't just order the police to do their jobs and suddenly decades of oppression and mutual hatred dry up overnight, especially when many members of the police were part of the oppression and hatred going on before.

Lets look at it a different way:

vortex_magus May 30, 2009 07:25PM

You seem extremely uneducated on the subject.

Java May 30, 2009 09:24PM

You, on the other hand, seem to love the rose colored glasses

vortex_magus May 30, 2009 10:03PM

Java was more correct than you, in a few ways.

Graham June 02, 2009 12:41PM

You didn't answer my question.

Java May 30, 2009 10:15PM

Surely the media depicts the whole story? ; ) n/t

I really hate that..

Java May 30, 2009 12:53PM

I agree

Matrik May 30, 2009 01:02PM

This is hard to watch.

Splntrd May 29, 2009 09:18PM

Didn't have an issue with it.

Graham May 30, 2009 05:04AM

Nah, this would be hard to watch...

Xerouk May 30, 2009 01:36AM

I absolutely loved it.

Java May 29, 2009 10:29PM

If everything the soldier was saying was true, and the speech was needed, then yes, it's a good thing.

Splntrd May 30, 2009 06:25AM

From my experience, it probably is true.

Java May 30, 2009 09:36AM

Actually, the only thing that made me mad about that video..

Java May 29, 2009 10:32PM

I thought it was fucking foolish for him to dress down their commanding officer in front of them nt

Lokain May 30, 2009 12:03AM

Yeah really. Positive feedback to people who are already american prejudiced would have been smarter. nt

Yhorian(VIP) May 30, 2009 02:12AM

He wasn't trying to make them like us. He was trying to make them do their job. nt

Java May 30, 2009 09:33AM

there's merit to both of those things. txt

Isildur(VIP) May 30, 2009 09:35AM

People just don't like to be told they are crap at their job

Graham May 30, 2009 09:58AM

You're looking at the big picture. This isn't the big picture.

Java May 30, 2009 09:40AM

They will vote, eventually. nt

Splntrd May 30, 2009 04:04PM

Yes, they will.

Java May 30, 2009 09:26PM

That's not what I meant

Lokain May 30, 2009 09:32AM

I can agree with that.
