Being a "genius" is overrated.

People like that occassionally change the world. But most of the time they live in their mothers' basement and accomplish nothing.

Being socially well-adjusted is more important than being particularly studious, 99 times out of 100.

And while you can cite examples to the country, generally home schooled people are less socially adept than people who went to school with different people. Interacting with a variety of people, particularly at a young age, is good for your growth. Home schooling your kids (and not going well out of your way to find other means to socialize them) is handicapping them. Some people overcome handicaps. Most people don't.
