I agree with both you and Vortex. + a specific suggestion.

What I want to see is a system where you buy a box that you place under your TV, and hook it up to your internet line. In this box you can subscribe to movies, TV series and other tv related entertainment. The movies gotta be put on this system the moment they come out on DVD for a price people accept, in atleast 720p quality.

TV-series gotta be put into the system at latest the day after they air in their respective countries, and there can nor be any sort of limitations when it comes to country borders. Also in atleast 720p. They can implement torrent technology into this box to offload the bandwidth requirement for the companies who release the series. These days companies like HBO produce a series, then sell it to local channels across the world after a little bit of time has passed. Pricing on this is based on how old the series is. With this box available, the value of their series when it comes to selling it would decrease but they would still got them sold if its quality TV.. since there is always someone interested in the old way to watch TV with a schedule etc. To make up the difference in income from other tv channels, they will have the income from people who pay either per episode or per season for a tv series. Lets take a series like True Blood, lets say across the world there is 100 million people who own the box. Lets say that 10 million is interested in following true blood and each pay 20-30 dollars for a season. Thats 200-300 million dollars + what they earn from various tv-channels. A channel could also choose if they want to let viewers chose if they want to pay and get it without advertisement, or watch for free with advertisement. This is just example numbers, but it is a business model that can and should work. What is important though, is that all channels go together and produce a system that all embrace. You cant have one system for each channel, then it wont work. If you subscribe to a series, then it automatically start downloading into the box the moment the episode is released into the system.

You must also be able to access your account and watch from your computer. This is important.

This would fix the requirement of todays young that they want it delivered on their door, watch it when they want to and not when the channels want you to and the pricing would be alright for most people. I guess you could compare it to how Steam work today for games.

Film makers send out demands for 2500 dollars for downloading movies..

I think it's kind of silly to use your VIP powers to delete a post you made when you have a second thought.

Starscream May 31, 2010 08:09AM

Second thought? It was to enforce my standpoint, but decided to delete and post later when I had more time. (n/t)

Cerunnir(VIP) May 31, 2010 08:22AM

I didn't get to read it.

Being an admin on a site has some advantages, this is one of them. (n/t)

Why do they need laws to protect people, when they can do it themselves by NOT STEALING?

Java May 31, 2010 07:51AM

It's not stealing. Its copyright infringement.

Death_Claw June 05, 2010 09:54AM

Industries who don't play fair don't get any pity from me when their captive market figures out a way to fight back.

bell June 01, 2010 06:20AM

You don't have to give them your pity. You just have to give them your money, when you get caught. nt

Java June 03, 2010 02:17AM

It's copying, not stealing.

PaulO May 31, 2010 04:05PM

The proper name for it is not stealing (n/t)

cenatar May 31, 2010 12:22PM

I disagree with this assessment

vortexmagus May 31, 2010 08:51AM

Nothing you say changes the fact that downloading movies illegally is illegal.

Java June 01, 2010 05:43AM

Well, if you regard U.S. law as an absolute instead of a heuristic, this is true.

vortexmagus June 01, 2010 08:45AM

US law specifically gives the military an exception to such policies.

Java June 02, 2010 04:20AM

Difference is that the fine is set by a private company.

Cerunnir(VIP) June 02, 2010 06:50AM

It's civil court.

Speeding/jaywalking/etc do not deprive someone of a livelihood.

The Forsaken(VIP) June 01, 2010 08:55AM

Thats a bad argument though

vortexmagus June 01, 2010 12:33PM

Your argument is even worse. Sorry?

The Forsaken(VIP) June 01, 2010 12:59PM

I am?

Cerunnir(VIP) June 02, 2010 04:10AM

Oh ok.

The Forsaken(VIP) June 02, 2010 04:53AM

Well I am sort of.

Cerunnir(VIP) June 02, 2010 05:10AM

I'm with Forsaken and Java on this one.

I agree with this.

agraemas May 31, 2010 09:02AM

Right. Don't steal and there isn't a problem.

The Forsaken(VIP) May 31, 2010 08:35AM

Right. Don't deal drugs and it isn't a problem.

Flipside Oreo June 01, 2010 01:35AM

Whatever you call it, it's illegal. There are consequences for breaking the law. You realize this. nt

Java June 01, 2010 05:40AM

I think, Java, more people would agree with you if you conceded 'if you don't like the law, the onus is on you to convince the lawmaking bodies to change it, not break it and pay fines'.

Scrimbul June 02, 2010 05:18PM

What he said. nt

Java June 07, 2010 01:08AM

The Forsaken(VIP) June 01, 2010 05:29AM

I wouldn't lose any sleep over that.
