Religion isn't real

June 22, 2010 11:06AM
Religion may give you a purpose, but it's no different than just deciding what your purpose is. You can decide your purpose is to teach kids in public school or whatever, or to raise a family. Religion is basically just a frozen dinner. It comes already made with your peas (morality) and chicken (purpose). It may not be the best dinner, but if you're feeling lazy it'll do.

We need a new religion.

If by 'religion'

starbright June 25, 2010 02:32PM

I disagree with the title of this post.

Re: We alread have it, Law.

zannon June 24, 2010 05:55AM

It fails in many ways where religion succeeds. No one dies for laws.

Religion isn't real

slimfast June 22, 2010 11:06AM

Religion is real.

Death_Claw June 22, 2010 10:35PM

I don't think he's saying "religions don't exist", but rather "what they hold to be true" doesn't - God/angels/demons/hell/spirits/whatever. Basically calling them loonies. NT

Batman June 24, 2010 04:31AM

And I'm saying they don't have to be. Why is this so hard to grasp? n/t

Death_Claw June 24, 2010 05:10AM

Meant to reply to "Religion is real" in this post.

Stevers June 24, 2010 05:34AM

Are you really this stupid? n/t

Death_Claw June 24, 2010 12:42PM

Yeah dude.

Stevers June 24, 2010 05:51AM

We should ask Athena. NT

Batman June 24, 2010 05:54AM

Ah, okay, I'm following you now. Religion is real but beliefs don't have to be.

Stevers June 24, 2010 05:31AM

I hope that's not what people base their entire interpretation of their surroundings on. I mean, that's just scary. Basing it only on religion? I'd hope for some other sources in there. NT

Batman June 22, 2010 06:58AM

They do.

Death_Claw June 22, 2010 07:02AM

Age old debate?

Matrik June 22, 2010 12:12PM

But I can be happy, and I can make decisions. I do on a regular basis.

Batman June 22, 2010 07:26AM

Re: But I can be happy, and I can make decisions. I do on a regular basis.

Death_Claw June 22, 2010 08:02AM

Sure, it's nice you can get it in a book. And it CAN make you happy.

Batman June 22, 2010 08:08AM

Re: Sure, it's nice you can get it in a book. And it CAN make you happy.

Death_Claw June 22, 2010 08:24AM

So what? That is why laws are better.

Stevers June 22, 2010 06:51AM

Eww, horrible

slimfast June 22, 2010 06:42AM

You're horrible

Stevers June 22, 2010 06:45AM

No, there are lots of stupid laws

slimfast June 22, 2010 11:03AM

Amen brother

Matrik June 22, 2010 07:39AM

But it's easier for me to not vote or do anything and just complain. NT

Batman June 22, 2010 07:40AM

There was a vote on whether or not the rest of the American populace should be retarded?

Death_Claw June 22, 2010 08:08AM

Yeah, it was last Tuesday at 3 in the morning. Man, check your calendar! NT

Batman June 22, 2010 08:12AM

I know dude!

Matrik June 22, 2010 07:45AM

I agree with you. The people elect their leaders.

Batman June 22, 2010 07:47AM

lolled hard

Stevers June 23, 2010 06:33AM

Religion is for restraining assholes

slimfast June 22, 2010 06:39AM

That's not true and that's sorta my point.

Death_Claw June 22, 2010 06:57AM

Yeah, because Christians invented democracy.

Batman June 22, 2010 07:23AM

Science. n/t

Stevers June 22, 2010 06:28AM

Science is not a religion. n/t

Death_Claw June 22, 2010 07:06AM

You asked for something "replacing the authority from which we ascertain objective value of everything around us".

Batman June 22, 2010 07:30AM

Nope, this is right on point. n/t

Stevers June 22, 2010 10:58AM

On the offhand that you're not trolling, science by its definition cannot replace beliefs. n/t

Death_Claw June 22, 2010 10:58PM

Why settle for believing something to be true

Stevers June 23, 2010 03:33AM

And observation does not say anything about value. n/t

Death_Claw June 22, 2010 07:55AM

You observe the results of given actions to determine value. You don't just say it has "inherent" worth. NT

Batman June 22, 2010 08:00AM

Does life have worth? Can you scientifically prove it? n/t

Death_Claw June 22, 2010 08:03AM

Define "worth". EDIT: Txt

Batman June 22, 2010 08:11AM

Re: Define "worth". EDIT: Txt

Death_Claw June 22, 2010 08:32AM

Lolled. How is it unpleasant? To me it's just "a thing". It doesn't make me more happy or more sad. I don't see why it should.

Batman June 22, 2010 08:50AM

Carl Sagan is le awesome

Matrik June 22, 2010 12:08PM

Thinking your life is worthless isn't unpleasant? Sorry I'm not a masochist. Text added.

Death_Claw June 22, 2010 08:53AM

Thinking your life is valuable, important, and worthwhile? Sorry, I'm not a self-centered supercilious fellow with unbased assumptions. n/t

Batman June 22, 2010 09:02AM

The end of that line of thinking is depression.

Death_Claw June 22, 2010 09:08AM

I feel fine though. It doesn't depress me. It doesn't lessen my goals. It doesn't make me stop being productive.

Batman June 22, 2010 09:14AM

I pretty much subscribe to this too.

istirith June 23, 2010 01:32AM

Re: I feel fine though. It doesn't depress me. It doesn't lessen my goals. It doesn't make me stop being productive.

Death_Claw June 22, 2010 09:24AM

And you were poking at me for mixing objective and subjective.

Batman June 22, 2010 10:45AM

Fair enough point. Either way you can't call it a truth. n/t

Death_Claw June 22, 2010 10:49PM

Seeking a new moral authority

wrathpuppet June 22, 2010 06:12AM
