Lowest you should go these days if your buying a graphics card for modern games is:

ATI 5770

If you wanto to splash out a bit more cash:

Nvidia GTX 460

Bit More:

Nvidia GTX 470
ATI 5850

If you are after high end:

ATI 5870
Nvidia GTX 480

Best value for money at this time I think is GTX460/470 and ATI 5850
