Which, no, taking a quote out of context is not the same thing as fabricating a story. I'm fine with moral relativism but lets all agree on what common phrases mean - fabricating a story means making one up.
In even the case you mention it wasn't a fabricated story run on the news, it was fabricated quotes by one guy on his page of their website - who was reprimanded for it (though he should have been fired). That's obviously not the same thing as airing the 5PM news with fabricated stories.
And re: O'Reilly being 'the news', no. Mad Money runs on CNBC but I don't think anyone with half a brain considers it a news program.
