The Good, the Bad, The Weird - Not a Samurai film - it's a modern korean western action epic set in manchuria in the 40s. GREAT camerawork, action, characters, music... this movie is the total package. [

Samurai 7 - [
www.imdb.com] Anime re-telling of the classic Japanese folktale.
Samurai Champloo - [
www.imdb.com] A more episodic anime with some endearing characters and great action scenes. Heavily themed on a make-believe edo period-esque culture that has for some reason taken on some of the aspects of modern hip-hop culture. Great soundtrack, good art, exciting and satisfying action, and some decent comedic moments. A very good adaptation of the style of classic samurai films to anime, plus hip-hop for some reason.
Afro Samurai - [
www.imdb.com] Produced by Samuel L. Jackson, it's another hip-hop heavy anime. The Wu-Tang Clan and RZA team up for the entire soundtrack. Action, art, and voice acting are top notch. The story is epic, tragic, and bloody. If it made sense to recommend this one twice, I would.
