Post-BFA career ponderings: Military?

Splntrd March 16, 2012 10:32AM

Some of these may have been mentioned, but here's some of the biggies:

Java March 18, 2012 09:50PM

How does getting these things work?

Splntrd March 18, 2012 10:01PM

The only thing you need to talk about before you enlist

Java March 18, 2012 10:09PM

Not in the Army

jtarrant00 March 18, 2012 11:04PM

It's a leadership issue. Some places damn near force you to take advantage, others could care less. (n/t)

Matrik March 19, 2012 06:25AM

I assume such, but I am infantry. We really don't have time to take advantage with a FTX every other week. (n/t) (n/t)

jtarrant00 March 19, 2012 07:38AM

Indeed.

Matrik March 19, 2012 08:57AM

I can only speak from the Air Force perspective..

Java March 18, 2012 11:11PM

Hmm, student debt or missing limbs... (n/t)

ORB March 17, 2012 11:06AM

It really is an impossibly tough decision to make.

Splntrd March 17, 2012 09:08PM

Re: It really is an impossibly tough decision to make.

jtarrant00 March 18, 2012 03:31AM

Just remember that USA has been prone of having wars in recent years.

DurNominator(VIP) March 17, 2012 10:56PM

You're an idiot.

Java March 18, 2012 09:44PM

Coumidin March 18, 2012 09:51PM

I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

Java March 18, 2012 10:11PM

I'm curious to know

Splntrd March 18, 2012 10:41AM

I'm just trying to point out the realities to you.

DurNominator(VIP) March 18, 2012 08:00PM

You're pointing out realities that you've never seen.

Java March 18, 2012 09:52PM

Re: I'm just trying to point out the realities to you.

Splntrd March 18, 2012 09:07PM

Just to clarify..

Java March 18, 2012 09:58PM

This must be Air Force specific,

Matrik March 19, 2012 06:18AM

And ANOTHER thing

Splntrd March 18, 2012 10:32PM

They won't put it on the contract until there's an opening..

Java March 18, 2012 10:39PM

Re: They won't put it on the contract until there's an opening..

Splntrd March 18, 2012 10:53PM

Just as a heads up..

Java March 18, 2012 11:00PM

I was Army and I scored higher than you, (not a dig, just a fact...you are dumb).

Matrik March 19, 2012 06:19AM

It's entirely possible..

Java March 20, 2012 02:49AM

I knew it

Matrik March 20, 2012 06:02AM

My most recent TDY's..

Java March 22, 2012 01:13AM

Wait a second, since when do E-5s make 75k a year? (n/t)

Matrik March 22, 2012 06:08AM

Per month: Base pay ($2845.20), BAS ($348.44), BAH ($2752.67), COLA ($903.13)

Java March 22, 2012 07:30PM

Jesus base pay has jumped,

Matrik March 22, 2012 07:32PM

Holy shit, I remember it being waaayy less than that. (n/t)

Wanderlust- March 22, 2012 07:36PM

Military isn't really underpaid anymore..

Java March 22, 2012 07:41PM

Heh

Matrik March 22, 2012 07:43PM

E-1s used to make like, 1k a month.

Wanderlust- March 22, 2012 07:46PM

It's $1.5k now.. but what does an E-1 need the money for anyways?

Java March 22, 2012 07:59PM

COLA is Cost of Living Allowance

Java March 22, 2012 07:35PM

yeah

Matrik March 22, 2012 07:39PM

>implying someone in the Army couldn't do the exact same thing ; ). (n/t)

Matrik March 22, 2012 06:01AM

Oh, and for the record, I agree. The intelligence requirement is woefully low for infantry. (n/t)

Matrik March 19, 2012 07:13AM

Re: Just as a heads up..

jtarrant00 March 18, 2012 11:17PM

So let's say I get a bad coin-flip

Splntrd March 18, 2012 10:13PM

The most hazardous job I ever had..

Java March 18, 2012 10:27PM

Java speaks truth. Everyone is an infantryman first, but seriously, just don't pick a combat role and you'll be fine. (n/t)

Matrik March 19, 2012 06:22AM

Re: The most hazardous job I ever had..

Splntrd March 18, 2012 10:34PM

... Just the recent years, though, right? nt

mmmmk March 18, 2012 08:42AM

Soldier of Fortune is an awesome job title though. (n/t)

Re: Post-BFA career ponderings: Military?

jtarrant00 March 16, 2012 02:07PM

It's an excellent way to repay school debts. However, don't enlist, get commisioned instead. (n/t)

Matrik March 16, 2012 10:46AM

The google results I'm getting don't seem relevent

Splntrd March 16, 2012 11:20AM

If you do want to get a commission..

Java March 18, 2012 10:04PM

What do you mean by stability?

Splntrd March 18, 2012 10:21PM

Recently, officers have been involuntarily separated pretty often..

Java March 18, 2012 10:32PM

Either way you have to go through Basic training, but you should be looking into OCS (Officer Candidate School) and figuring out how to apply

Matrik March 16, 2012 11:43AM

This. If you have the degree already get your commission or even apply for flight warrant to fly helo's. (n/t)

kanye March 16, 2012 10:49AM

Flying helos is the best job in the military

HairyOrangutan March 16, 2012 10:55AM

The school I looked at was something like 20-25k for commercial training and license. To bad my ass was too big for their training model. (n/t)

Matrik March 16, 2012 10:59AM

Actually, Warrant slipped my mind. That's the way I would go, personally. (n/t)
