I tend to give a handicap out when I argue this

March 28, 2012 02:22PM
..and just assume that the old testament laws are no longer in play. Of course, you still can't forget "history" (I'm laughing even putting that in quotes), so god was still responsible for all the shit that went down that entire time. Either way, there's enough awfully stupid stuff said in the new testament too - rife with contradictions - that you're better off ignoring something like that rather than arguing with random bible scholars about translations, semantics, etc.

How god favors evil

Artificial March 28, 2012 07:25AM

I'm too much of a moral relativist to give a shit about this. (n/t)

DurNominator(VIP) March 29, 2012 12:40AM

The problem of evil seems to bother you a lot

PaulO March 28, 2012 12:59PM

The Book of Nepenthe

Quixotic March 30, 2012 05:30PM

Who are you to determine what people deserve?

Artificial March 28, 2012 01:16PM

your god is less moral then us kind of assumes there is no free will

Quas March 29, 2012 04:33AM

Well, free will is only an illusion, but you'll need to explain why you think god is less moral=no free will

Artificial March 29, 2012 07:30AM

regarding free will and supposed inadequacies, i give you WoT re: open theism

The Forsaken(VIP) March 30, 2012 04:38AM

But if he knows which pathway everyone ends up on.....NT

Batman March 30, 2012 04:39AM

you're thinking too linear

The Forsaken(VIP) March 30, 2012 05:00AM

For me it's more like.

Batman March 30, 2012 05:05AM

I really don't understand where the notion that someone knowing the possible outcomes determines the end result...

(vಠ_ಠ)> AngryFatKid March 31, 2012 07:55PM

It's really quite simple.

Matrik March 31, 2012 08:08PM

seems to me you're caught up

The Forsaken(VIP) March 30, 2012 05:17AM

Almost, but not really.

Batman March 30, 2012 05:23AM

yah, not what i'm saying

The Forsaken(VIP) March 30, 2012 05:43AM

This still doesn't mesh with me.

Batman March 30, 2012 06:05AM

hmm, can you explain how knowing = determining = no free will?

The Forsaken(VIP) March 30, 2012 06:21AM

Re: hmm, can you explain how knowing = determining = no free will?

ExPaladin(VIP) March 30, 2012 06:49AM

Re: hmm, can you explain how knowing = determining = no free will?

The Forsaken(VIP) March 30, 2012 06:57AM

God knows every path Francis could have taken. However by definition of omniscience, he always knows the path that will be taken. The other branches are just dead wood. (n/t)

Artificial March 30, 2012 08:30AM

Yeah, that's basically the arguement I was thinking to, but I still think there's a flaw in it

ExPaladin(VIP) March 30, 2012 07:00AM

The concept of pre-determination isn't relevant to God.

Splntrd March 30, 2012 10:12AM

Same thing basically exists with calling God "all-powerful"

ExPaladin(VIP) March 30, 2012 07:15AM

In such a case I would prefer to attack the weakness in human language in reasoning. (n/t)

Matrik March 30, 2012 07:19AM

Dude, what kind of name is Francis, seriously? NT

Batman March 30, 2012 06:50AM

Sir Francis Drake was a Francis. (n/t)

DurNominator(VIP) March 30, 2012 10:42AM

If anybody calls me Francis, I'll kill them

ExPaladin(VIP) March 30, 2012 06:51AM

You just made the list, buddy. And I don't like nobody touching my stuff. So just keep your meat-hooks off. If I catch any of you guys in my stuff, I'll kill you. Also, I don't like nobody touching me. Now, any of you homos touch me, and I'll kill you. (n/t)

wrathpuppet March 31, 2012 09:11PM

Re: hmm, can you explain how knowing = determining = no free will?

Batman March 30, 2012 06:48AM

i think that is a logical fallacy

The Forsaken(VIP) March 30, 2012 07:01AM

Then elaborate on the terms for me. I'm assuming we mean a singular omniscient god in a universe like ours.

Batman March 30, 2012 07:37AM

Let me take a crack at arguing against both of you at the same time:

Matrik March 30, 2012 07:18AM

I'll give you two wills for free. Now you have free willie.

Matrik March 29, 2012 07:34AM

That's a good question.

PaulO March 28, 2012 02:50PM

The evil of God isn't just in the world we live in

reject-o March 29, 2012 03:40AM

For you and Batman

PaulO March 29, 2012 10:15AM

Re: For you and Batman

Batman March 29, 2012 10:40AM

I absolutely agree.

PaulO March 29, 2012 03:52PM

Or, you know, reflection upon one's beliefs, with consideration if they could be false, which one should do every single day. (n/t)

Artificial March 29, 2012 03:58PM

You know what really bugs me about theist arguments?

Stevers March 29, 2012 10:38AM

You addressed something here that was really bugging me.

Batman March 29, 2012 03:48AM

Totally agree

reject-o March 29, 2012 06:11AM

Re: That's a good question.

Artificial March 28, 2012 05:10PM

Re: That's a good question.

PaulO March 29, 2012 10:35AM

And that place would be absolutely miserable

Artificial March 29, 2012 12:29PM

Cute story.

PaulO March 29, 2012 03:32PM

I should also clarify. It doesnt matter what the bible says about it, because we have no reason to believe it fuckin exists :P (n/t)

Artificial March 29, 2012 12:35PM

I am curious what you define as 'real'

Quas March 29, 2012 09:27AM

That one is easy.

vortexmagus March 30, 2012 04:24PM

I'm not sure what the point of this question is

Artificial March 29, 2012 10:07AM

I figure it would be an important piece in any proof you have that aethiesm is right and theism is wrong

Quas March 29, 2012 11:06AM

That's where you always get me:

Matrik March 29, 2012 10:30AM

Well, my soon to be mother-in-law just sent us a bible.

Matrik March 28, 2012 03:48PM

Congrats on the engagement

PaulO March 28, 2012 04:31PM

Thanks, it's been a year since we got engaged.

Matrik March 28, 2012 04:35PM

Ah, Protestants.

PaulO March 29, 2012 03:55PM

Re: Who are you to determine what people deserve?

Wanderlust- March 28, 2012 01:27PM

Good thing an all-knowing god handed down his divine word through a means which he knew would never be misinterpreted or poorly translated.

Artificial March 28, 2012 01:50PM

And there you find morals without religion

Coumidin March 28, 2012 02:03PM

You're jumping into the middle of an entirely different argument...

Wanderlust- March 28, 2012 01:57PM

Out of curiosity, did Jesus support the old testament or the original covenant with god - or did he destroy/change it? NT

Batman March 28, 2012 01:59PM

I tend to give a handicap out when I argue this

Coumidin March 28, 2012 02:22PM

Why would he yell cock, cock, cock while banging a sign of nofaggots? (n/t)

Matrik March 28, 2012 01:18PM

Bullshit, I deserve it more than millions upon millions of others.

Matrik March 28, 2012 01:02PM

May you live long and prosper.

PaulO March 28, 2012 01:08PM

Daw, PaulOt, you so cute. (n/t)

Matrik March 28, 2012 01:12PM

That -is- a hell of a pedigree. (n/t)

Wanderlust- March 28, 2012 01:04PM

Now imagine that you and Artificial have the exact same pedigree.

Matrik March 28, 2012 01:06PM

Hey, now, I don't hate Artificial.

Wanderlust- March 28, 2012 01:11PM

What's with the tag then? (n/t)

DurNominator(VIP) March 28, 2012 06:45PM

Hmm...

Wanderlust- March 28, 2012 07:47PM

You were being douche and angered him and he said that because he was angry at you.

DurNominator(VIP) March 28, 2012 11:48PM

Hold on.

Wanderlust- March 29, 2012 12:19AM

I'm telling you you acted like a dick.

DurNominator(VIP) March 29, 2012 12:39AM

Oh wait...

Wanderlust- March 28, 2012 11:48PM

Are you slow or something?

RobDarken March 29, 2012 12:04AM

It made *some* sense, what with the way you and he were reacting to it.

Wanderlust- March 29, 2012 12:20AM

A post so nice I said it twice, wtf.
