this.val = this.val + n;
try subtracting that by 1 and see if that consistently gives you the correct number

I don't read javascript :x
But maybe it's that it's counting it like this
0 1 2 3 4 (which is five)
isntead of 1 2 3 4

I really have no idea, which makes me feel silly.

I'm confused because I'm not even sure where the printing out of the increment is coming from, since you used console.log for the the total
