I got a few ideas for you.

In Australia we hold an event once a year called the Oxfam walk. Oxfam is an international aid organisation and as a fundraising thing each year they do a 100km non stop walk.

Its really quite inspiring seeing the teams come together and raise money for a good cause. Im sure in the States there is something similar you guys could do.

Another idea is an Advnture race. A TRUE adventure race. Think of it as a week long event where you try to complete multiple stages, mountain bike riding/canoeing/abseiling/trail running etc.

There is an international competition and they do events in most countries, but you could propose doing a crazy one in Ecuador or something they see some pretty amazing scenery.

One more idea - There is a trail in Spain called the way of St James. It is a Christian pilgrimage though I think just the history of doing the walk could be amazing. But theres some ideas

Affordable health care is an important thing.

How about I'm now obligated to pay $15k a year for a service I don't want and won't use

jegec July 11, 2012 10:03PM

Please provide a link showing that the penalty for not buying in is $15K a year.

bell July 12, 2012 08:35AM

Yeah, 15k is how much healthcare costs for a family of 3 in my area

jegec July 12, 2012 09:29AM

Why is it so high? Company pays $1200.00 a year for mine and that wasn't even the minimum. (n/t)

Matrik July 12, 2012 01:40PM

I was shocked too, but that's what it costs

jegec July 12, 2012 02:23PM

Great, so you aren't "obligated" to pay $15k! Problem solved!

bell July 12, 2012 09:40AM

Wow, so it's only an extra 3% of my income. What a relief, thanks for putting my mind at ease. (n/t)

jegec July 12, 2012 09:45AM

If your original complaint had been paying 3% of your gross income, my answer would have been different. Not my fault you were complaining about something that was spurious Faux news bullshit. (n/t)

bell July 12, 2012 11:08AM

No you were just being a dick, and you're still wrong

Splntrd July 12, 2012 10:57AM

According to this it is $750 or 2% of your income. Whichever is higher. Exemptions (for the poor) exist. I guess Jegec makes 750k a year. Not sure why he doesn't have health insurance.

Matrik July 12, 2012 08:44AM

durrrrrrr

Quas July 12, 2012 03:52AM

Matrik July 12, 2012 06:24PM

Because it's "insurance."

wrathpuppet July 12, 2012 04:48PM

But it's not much of a gamble

jegec July 12, 2012 05:10PM

In all seriousness I hope things work out concerning your family their health and your plan.
