And this...and you...are the problem

January 23, 2013 11:26AM
You cannot legally buy any FULLY automatic weapon - PERIOD.

You may buy an AR-15 which is a SEMI automatic weapon, after passing the needed background checks.

The honest problem with this debate is you have one side that knows fuck-all about guns, their legality, or their operation (clearly you belong to this group) screaming for the need for regulation.

The other side, unfortunately too often takes the standpoint of "you'll get my guns out of my cold dead hands'.

To answer your question:

Do I need an AR15 in everyday life? No, I only use my guns for hunting.

Does my friend John need an AR-15 in every day life? Yes, he is a competetive shooter. He uses long range semi-automatic rifles in a competetive shooting circuit. In fact, many people use these types of firearms recreationally and competetively. Specifically: he competes in 3-gun competitions, here is a link explaining them

I have known John my entire life, he has never harmed a soul to my knowledge. He owns his own business, and employs about 20 people.

Does he deserve the right to own and enjoy competing with this type of firearm? He sure does.

So, we had this Sandy Hook incident, which is not necessarily unlike columbine, or any of the other school shootings in the last 20 years. Unfortunately though, whenever this type of thing happens, a bunch of people give in to a fear of guns. They fear guns because, as I said before they know fuck-all about them. All they know, is which end is the business end, and that they are capable of killing people.

I'll raise your "why do you need an AR-15 in every day life" argument with a "Why do you need a car that can go over 65?" argument.

By your logic, we shouldn't own sports cars, because they have the capability of going recklessly fast, which endangers the lives of others. In fact! There are more vehicular related deaths than gunshot related deaths per year per capita.

You, and people like you who let your fear dominate your logic are the reason I own guns, and will never be willing to give them up.
