XP was their best OS. Nothing else even came close.

(Even though discussing the merits of windows operating systems in the broader sense is like discussing the merits of the items on a McDonald's menu. If you put the effort in to cook yourself (use Linux) you'd probably find more eventual satisfaction. Instead most people choose convenience.)

I would never recommend a *nix for desktop/everyday use.
