I don't feel like that's productive.

Sure, the idea is to punish people that do bad stuff, but the reality is that when people are provoked like that it's not going to encourage them to be better people.

Take looting in CF for example. Loot the people who are douchebags, to discourage them from doing bad stuff. That sounds legit. What ends up happening? Everybody starts looting because other people are looting.

This legislation seems like it's only going to encourage keeping them down, instead of trying to help them adjust and become a productive part of society.

Question: Would banning violent felons from getting food stamps increase recidivism?

qurdind May 26, 2013 01:07PM

I question the benefits of taking people who have shown criminal tendencies, and making them starving and desperate. (n/t)

Dalbrin June 01, 2013 04:55PM

I'm with Carlin on this one.

Matrik May 28, 2013 12:43PM

We kinda tried that as a world once. It was called Australia....and we see how well THAT worked.

satchmo May 28, 2013 12:45PM

Bread and circuses! Hail Caesar Matrik! (n/t)

sevriis May 28, 2013 12:45PM

I'm disinclined towards legislation which limits the use of judgment.

sevriis May 28, 2013 12:11AM

Absolutely right.

The Faithful of Nazmorghul(VIP) May 29, 2013 07:34AM

This is a horrible idea, they already have a hard enough time getting jobs after prison, I feel this is just one more way to keep private prison system stocked.

ORB May 27, 2013 08:49AM

Once you have served your sentence, your full institutional rights should be restored.

Flipside Oreo May 27, 2013 10:49AM

I don't see a way where a conviced violent felon should be able to own a gun again. Ever. (n/t)

qurdind May 27, 2013 10:14PM

if they just made hand guns illegal to own/carry then 95% of gun related problems would go poof (n/t)

Quas May 28, 2013 08:09AM

Ha. Then the cops can't have guns, either. It's not as though they're wiser than the rest of us.

madglee June 03, 2013 12:52PM

The legal ones would. People would still carry illegally, though, which is the majority of criminal use.

vortexmagus May 29, 2013 02:56AM

No there would be MORE illegal ones circulating. (This is the problem)

tesline June 03, 2013 12:59PM

Surely everyone convicted of a crime is a mustachioed villain, a veritable time bomb waiting to destroy society! (n/t)

sevriis May 28, 2013 01:07AM

That's not it at all.

wrathpuppet May 28, 2013 04:14AM

You're not really seeing the forest for the trees.

sevriis May 28, 2013 09:30AM

I'm not saying that the way it is is the correct way.

wrathpuppet May 28, 2013 12:19PM

I don't really agree you're stuck. However, from an individual perspective that's absolutely true. (n/t)

sevriis May 28, 2013 12:40PM

I just don't see the paradigm shift in thinking required to make the change happening soon. (n/t)

wrathpuppet May 28, 2013 01:36PM

Felony which is one year of prison or more. That isn't every crime that is harder crimes. (n/t)

tesline May 28, 2013 01:57AM

EVERY theory on crime states that it won't increase it except for one.

tesline May 26, 2013 02:33PM

I don't feel like that's productive.

(vಠ_ಠ)> AngryFatKid May 26, 2013 02:30PM

This amendment won't going to deter crime.

Quixotic May 26, 2013 02:30PM

I'm not a fan.at all

vortexmagus May 26, 2013 01:46PM

Re: I'm not a fan.at all

qurdind May 26, 2013 01:54PM

Yeah, but there's violent and there's violent and not all violence is created equal.

You missed the spot where I asked for insightful debate, not meaningless bullshit. We've got enough of that on these forums. But, congratulations on not contributing anything. (n/t)

qurdind May 26, 2013 01:46PM

Yeah - because everyone else wasn't sarcastic.
