Am I just old school, and this frame of mind doesn't apply any more?
I mean, yes, avoid magic flagged items. But don't rely on a flag as the only source of information when making your role related decisions.
Basically avoid things that would basically "emasculate" a brave, courageous warrior who is proud of his abilities and shun outside means of power, hence not even using healers.
The brief history of the village is that their magic-baning abilities were actually created by wizards who used them to fight demons, and then the wizards turned on the anti-magic horde they had created and obliterated them, betraying them.
That should make you angry that they did that, and it should make you proud that the few survivors (Find their names in game, original battle imms) managed to survive the following persecution and hunting the wizards did to found a new home, based on the ideals of relying only on your own strength and never trusting anything related to magic or wizards again.
