There was a human one a few years back that was mildly annoying, but even then I didn't die to him playing an active enemy. Not that I ever came close to killing him either, but that's paladin for you. If you fight him and don't think you're winning, leave. If you overstay for too long, that's completely on you if you die. If we ever get another defiance temperance uber-shield-bashing monstrosity with jaguar tattoo, then you would maybe have something worth talking about and even then it's laughably simple to avoid/ignore him completely. It's especially a non-issue if you're not evil.
Contrast that with the lich emperor/mummy dreadlord. Unless they do something horrifically stupid bordering on suicidal you can't beat them one on one. Like ever. And I haven't seen them do suicidal things. You can't even beat them two on one. You especially cannot beat them as a horde of paladins. You can maybe mildly annoy them and maybe make them flee, but that's about it. But any time you're in the same non-protected non-village area as them and you're not empire you run an extremely high chance of death. I'd even venture to say that your chances to die are greater than your chances to live unless you GTFO the millisecond they show up.
