That's a large leap to take if you've never played a warrior before

April 28, 2016 05:20AM
Also, if you're under the assumption forsaken thoughts will shave off some of the positive damage you're vulnerable to - get that idea out of your head because it will not help you.

The only pure damage reduction legacy is gates, and having had it on numerous characters I can say a lot of the time there's a better option.

So, the key to warriors is to put all your chips into one aspect of whatever you're trying to do.

Want to be survivable? Go all survivability class/legacies for maximum synergy.
Damage? Highest DPS classes/legacies, etc.

Examples for this would be:

I'll base one off your example - dagger/flail duergar

So you have hamstring(-dex), bleeding, statloss, and the ability to remove dodge with entwine. You'll be taking a lot of damage vs. other smart warriors before you get off enough skill moves to be scary.

hurl, hamstring, entwine are not easy to get going and fail often compared to say - bash spam, cranial spam, etc.

Whispers and defender powers will help you outlast people but you'll have to put distance between you and them to make it possible, and that includes not succumbing to lag.

To pull of your build as an example I would recommend harmonious to not get locked down and to stay mobile. I would also change the race to arial who have a TON of built in evasion and with higher dex you might actually pull off a lot of these skill combos to be lethal. You trade vulns but arial is actually easier to cover the vuln since water and lightning are not as common. At hero level play you should be able to get items that have built in vuln reduction. With either race you will be eating that vuln damage at low levels. Thems the breaks.

For PvE dagger and flail/whip are not the ideal tanking options but you will have a lot of utility with pull and choke.

Again, if you have never played a warrior before - this is a huge leap in tactics to pull off if you're not familiar with the groove you have to be in to pull it off.

For a little easier time there's this...

Duergar has the ability to do a ton of damage and I've said it once and I'll say it again: damage is king.

There's nothing more fun than sword/mace chilling/cry duergar berserker. Spam cranial on everything and win or bash, trip, dirt and flurry everything and win. The choice is yours. Also, you'll melt everything in PvE so there's that.

Both builds require getting a mage kill, and if you have high enough damroll you should be able to one round any dark-elf mage at around 11 when you use mithril weapons. Same for elf and iron.

monstermash April 28, 2016 07:47PM

Now that empowerment system is completely gimped and there are way fewer paladins running around.

Murphy April 29, 2016 04:08PM

But...but....assassin's are OP, right? (n/t)

bloodmoon April 29, 2016 11:05AM

I really don't think so. Just some players don't know how to cook them. (n/t)

Necro April 29, 2016 12:02PM

Okay, I'll bite. I can't cook them. What do you recommend?

DuneTree April 30, 2016 08:22AM

Some choices

Necro April 30, 2016 09:13AM

Successful sleep may not kill the assassin

daurwyn(VIP) May 04, 2016 10:34AM

Okay, but how about warriors?

DuneTree April 30, 2016 11:16AM

Is simple

Kstatida April 30, 2016 12:05PM

As Soelela assassin's didn't scare me so much at higher levels.

bloodmoon April 30, 2016 09:59AM

I think in 20 years of playing I've been assassinated like 3 times total. (n/t)

Necro April 30, 2016 10:01AM

How many times do I have to tell you?

Murphy April 30, 2016 09:07PM

This

MiyagiYojimbo May 01, 2016 02:41AM

No Shishio pics? For shame. NT

Sam May 01, 2016 11:49PM

I will post them when relevant.

MiyagiYojimbo May 02, 2016 12:38AM

Happened to me 4 or 5 in my ten years.

bloodmoon April 30, 2016 02:26PM

Any thoughts on a fear hand/whip chilling/cry? (n/t)

Demtok April 28, 2016 05:20AM

You'd pick sword/mace over mace/sword for lowbie fun? n/t (n/t)

Ultec April 28, 2016 09:56AM

If you've never done a warrior before, yes. Lowbie mace is great if you're familiar with it. (n/t)

Demtok April 28, 2016 10:10AM

Swords are easier (n/t)

Zheeser April 30, 2016 11:23AM

Great insights, thanks man! N/t (n/t)

Ultec April 28, 2016 08:28AM

I'm pretty sure forsaken gives some damage reduction, but it is only about 15%.....

Zruulg April 28, 2016 06:27AM

Calming trumps forsaken big time in my opinion if it's a shaman you're worried about

Demtok April 28, 2016 07:03AM

Forsaken also drops commune level

Quas April 28, 2016 08:29AM

I'd go calming

daurwyn(VIP) April 29, 2016 09:43AM

Daggers do not synergize with entwine. It's more of a redundancy.

Murphy April 28, 2016 05:29AM

It's a lot of utility and that in itself is synergy.

Demtok April 28, 2016 06:08AM

Hurl, artery, fle. Hamstring, fle. Strip (one round opener) to entwine. They can't pick up their weapon and proceed to die to your stabbing and twisting. (n/t)

zen April 30, 2016 08:07AM

Whips are utility. Daggers are not. (n/t)

Murphy April 28, 2016 10:05AM

Daggers are great utility for the ultra 1337

Demtok April 28, 2016 10:17AM

Do you play a lot of dagger or whip specs? n/t

jalim April 28, 2016 10:08AM

Nope, I fight a lot of them though. My favorite spec to play (both pve and pvp) is mace.

Murphy April 28, 2016 10:42AM

You're right about fist. So long as the mob isn't immune to fist damage, it's solid.

Demtok April 28, 2016 11:30AM

Pfft... Nothing is immune to fisting (n/t)

demos April 28, 2016 11:44AM

giggity (n/t)

Demtok April 28, 2016 12:41PM

Hurls make dagger utility as hell. Esp given ham/stab/artery/poison options on top. Multiple bleedings is crazy. n/t

jalim April 28, 2016 10:45AM

Best is chasing around a mob with fear and underhand it (n/t)
