I'd say that it's not game breaking, so why do they care if we do it?

I don't see why I should get a mage kill to become an applicant either (and I cheated once with another mage char of my own, they found me and denied my char)
Was it really that important? I didn't see any mages for three days playing about 4 hours a day. anyway..
