I think maybe we are trying to attack the same problem from different avenues. I also would like to see an increase in the playerbase. To my way of thinking, though, this is supposed to be a fighting game. No matter how much of the game you know, fighting against other human controlled opponents is going to be new and introduce that thrill I think people seek on a pkill mud. To me, having fewer objectives for the same number of people to fight over should increase fights. And an increase in fights, if that is what people are looking for, will lead to a playerbase increase.
I completely agree that my suggestion limits the types of characters you can create and does limit the interactions those characters can have. So from an RP standpoint, it is bad. But let me ask you this about edges....are people really stoked about building the character they want or stoked about being able to kill better? The truthful answer is that I don't know. As an awful pkiller I honestly find myself enjoying the roleplay better. But, I do find that I like having groups to work with and raids and counter raids best of all. I was just thinking that fewer cabals means higher participation in the rest which leads to groups, more cabal wars, more killing, and more players.
Would playerbase drop from losing some cabals if the trade off was more fights? I don't know. I am willing to try it.
Thanks for the good talk though. Very good points.
