For example, I played a drow axe spec before Dex changes went in. I played a gnome trapper when traps weighed 10 each. I've completed with what people consider to be sub par builds.
But that's a bit different from playing, say, a character with flaws that set you up to be killed regularly. Certain flaws are hugely dangerous to a character. I'm not talking stuff like haemophilia, which I've taken before. I'm talking about the stuff that stops the where command working properly etc. On some builds that's much more forgiving than others. For example, on a bash resistant error with calming, you might well not get slaughtered as a result. But on other combos you are likely to either die repeatedly to bashers catching you with your pants down, or necros and aps doing it.
