Yes, they are decent generalists but your servitors will never be as responsive as one would be to a properly aligned conjurer (both alignment and ethos).

There are edges that make your elementals stronger to compensate, and other things.

There's also the added bonus of using devils when your archon timer is still on and vice versa, so you have a little more flexibility of always having acces to a high level servitor and switching as your mana allows.
