"your current enemies" should be taken to mean "enemies current to the character," meaning the stars align sometimes and favor certain character builds over others.
This was my first assassin, and fighting melee-oriented characters required I get off maladiction-skills. Deathblow would have fired automatically while I was twisting, tripping, and kicking and landed a few kills from blind luck, whereas critical strike would have required I give up a lagging manuever which would allow people to get away.
I will likely be shouted down, but I think critical strike would land kills if my character had had more hitpoints (like a dwarf) and could keep them from fleeing (entwine) as they saw their hitpoints dwindle down. When you do shout me down, though, I would like to study the logs of those kick-ass scout-assassins who used critical strike, because this was my first scout assassin and I admit I was terrible.
