As someone proposed below, making barrier harder to get and easier to find might be a solution. Or another very viable solution would be to make sleek spots distinguishable in a way other than finding your sleeks. This way you prevent having to re-explore places. And for finding sleeks, no you can't just 'check magey places', since I know at least two old sleek spots that are in an area with 0 mage characters, and no mage relevance. Other than the mage corpse/remains/bones/etc. that somehow managed to find it's ass to the place.
