Ranger unwritten skills and terrain/expertise compendium...

October 09, 2011 04:03PM
I've been wanting to roll another explorer ranger and am finding LOTS of misinfo and unclear info on what skills certain expertises have, what skills carry over to explorer, etc. Perhaps anyone who has played a ranger recently and feels so inclined can add here? Eventually it would be nice to make an updated FAQ. I'll start a few replies/subtopics to this thread and add what I've found so far.

EDIT: I'm going to reorganize a bit by terrain instead of by topic.

Thanks to whoever adding some info -- let's finish the page! :) (n/t)

Can someone with the power add a "Rangerpage" to DIKU-Wiki?

joecloud October 10, 2011 06:25AM

Added link to main page.

Marshdweller

joecloud October 09, 2011 04:38PM

Did they "fix" the dirt kick then? Used to carry over (the two hour part).

Marsh progs poison an plague both (n/t)

monstermash October 09, 2011 11:03PM

Trouble on plains and poisons is right. (n/t)

DurNominator(VIP) October 09, 2011 08:23PM

Also plagues, doesn't it? (n/t)

daning October 09, 2011 08:35PM

I think it was just one of them.

Plainsrunner

joecloud October 09, 2011 04:17PM

Bramblepit can only be used in plains. Can't be used in any other terrain. Snare and deadfall can only be used in non-plains wilderness. (n/t)

vortexmagus October 09, 2011 04:25PM

Unless you are an explorer, then bramblepit works in other terrains

Noone of significance October 10, 2011 11:46AM

Your hometerrain is plains and hills both, as a plainsrunner. You can make bramble pits in either one.~

ibuki October 10, 2011 10:25AM

Thanks! I reorganized the thread a bit and edited the post with this info. (n/t)

Plainsrunner Explorer:

vortexmagus October 09, 2011 05:16PM

If you are an explorer, bramble pit is not limited to plains/hills (n/t)

Noone of significance October 10, 2011 11:49AM

I just deleted one two weeks ago, it is definitely still limited to plains and hills. (n/t)

vortexmagus October 10, 2011 12:01PM

They've changed it since March then (n/t)

Noone of significance October 10, 2011 12:06PM

So even with explorer only plains get the potent herbs? (n/t)

joecloud October 09, 2011 05:55PM

Yeah. But you're not seeing the bigger picture.

Caverndweller

joecloud October 09, 2011 04:11PM

Caverndwellers naturally hear nearby people in caves, however, I think it is somehow enhanced as explorer.

Matrik October 10, 2011 07:35AM

Smokescreen: Yes. Deafening Howl: Yes. Just requires indoor. Terain doesn't matter. (n/t)

Matrik October 10, 2011 07:32AM

My recent explorer caverndweller could do neither unless CAVE/indoor. (n/t)

joecloud October 10, 2011 08:43AM

I should be more specific. Wilderness/indoor.

Matrik October 10, 2011 05:07PM

I have found such rooms, and it still needed to be a cave. I think they changed it. (n/t)

joecloud October 11, 2011 04:56AM

Mariner

joecloud October 09, 2011 04:09PM

Bedouin

joecloud October 09, 2011 04:07PM

Unless it has changed. 2 hour dirt. (n/t)

Matrik October 10, 2011 07:33AM

Mountaineer

joecloud October 09, 2011 04:05PM

small thing, but mountaineers (and probably swampers and mariners) cannot herb in deserts (n/t)

morocco October 09, 2011 04:48PM

Desert counts as "civilized" so I'd think only bedouin and small chance for explorer there (n/t)

joecloud October 09, 2011 04:57PM

nope, forester can herb in desert (n/t)
