Like I say I only did one semester of coding, the rest of my time in university was spent studying maths. So for the moment I'm just going to write my own library for general stats stuff to get my coding feet wet. From there I can explore the problem in greater depth. Going with Java for this bit since it's what I know, if that turns out to be a problem later I will address it then.

About these purpose built libraries and languages. Are there any copyright issues, i.e. for commercial use or if I wanted to copyright my own code?
