You need to clarify what you mean by greatest.

Being powerful doesn't make you badass. In Lord of the Rings, who among the Brotherhood is most badass? I'd say Sam, not Aragorn.

Even being weak and rising to power through adversity doesn't automatically make you badass. Many such characters are still shallow.
I guess there's nothing at all that makes you "automatically" qualify as badass. There are no standards :)

Murphy May 12, 2015 04:16PM

List one.

Frosty May 12, 2015 05:36PM

Not sure if you got the Zim reference I made but it's not a book unless you count comic books, and it's not fantasy :P (n/t)

Murphy May 12, 2015 08:51PM

I got it, it IS fantasy, and last I checked comic books are called comic books because they are books consisting of comics, but still a book SINCE IT'S CALLED A FUCKING BOOK.

Frosty May 12, 2015 10:39PM

Book of purchases is also a book

Kstatida May 14, 2015 01:04AM

I just have no idea who is Danny Phantom, that's why I don't nitpick it.

Murphy May 12, 2015 11:18PM

You also say Invader Zim is awesome. You dare agree with me?

Frosty May 12, 2015 11:33PM

Rade May 12, 2015 03:52PM

Can I change my answer? I want to pick Jesus.

NbM(VIP) May 12, 2015 03:08PM

You just wanted to to imply Bible is fantasy, didn't you? Tsk tsk. (n/t)

Murphy May 12, 2015 03:43PM

I'd pick Donny, Walter, or the Dude. Not Jesus. 8 year olds dude. (n/t)

Frosty May 12, 2015 03:14PM

Nobody fucks with the Jesus, man, nobody. (n/t)

NbM(VIP) May 12, 2015 03:20PM

You said it man. (n/t)

Frosty May 12, 2015 03:23PM

Obviously this has no right answer, but here are a few to consider:

alansmithee May 12, 2015 02:49PM

Covenant is an interesting choice...not often the "hero" is a rapist. NT

Sam May 12, 2015 03:47PM

You need to clarify what you mean by greatest.

Murphy May 12, 2015 02:17PM

I mean(t) most unique and epic. And just all-around fantastic. NT

Sam May 12, 2015 09:06PM

Well, if we can pick someone from any genre, Zaphod all the way. (n/t)

Frosty May 12, 2015 08:29AM

I said fantasy characters gais! Surprised no one said Prince Joshua from the Memory, Sorrow and Thorn books. Or Jon Snow :) NT

Sam May 12, 2015 08:31AM

Frosty May 12, 2015 08:35AM

The Forsaken May 12, 2015 12:42PM

I found a pretty sweet ass website:

Matrik May 12, 2015 12:54PM

This is a great choice! The "hidden" King who is a noble hero. NT

Sam May 12, 2015 08:24AM

We've seen that with Aragorn already :) (n/t)

Murphy May 12, 2015 11:46AM

And Aragorn was fucking awesome, hence why I name dropped him in the first post. NT

Sam May 12, 2015 12:55PM

His journey across the borderlands picking up troops...

Matrik May 12, 2015 07:23AM

Raistlin Majere /thread (n/t)

Artificial May 12, 2015 02:34AM

Hero fallen into Darkness that redeems himself at the end. Tarrant is still better at all of those. NT

Sam May 12, 2015 08:23AM

A lowly human who rises up to become a god and kill every other god. His story should have ended there. (n/t)

Artificial May 12, 2015 11:28AM

Yet he plays sidekick to a wannabe halfling named Burrfoot. (n/t)

Matrik May 12, 2015 01:01PM

Tarrant: A lowly human who conquers the World, creates God, realizes he will die, kills his family to become immortal, becomes the Hunter, saves the World. NT

Sam May 12, 2015 12:56PM

Who? (n/t)

Murphy May 12, 2015 01:18PM

This guy.

Sam May 12, 2015 03:49PM

Freud would have much to say here! (n/t)

Murphy May 12, 2015 03:50PM

Basically Tarrant is the Ultimate version of Darth Vader. NT

Sam May 12, 2015 12:56PM

Wonko the sane (n/t)

Falstaff May 11, 2015 04:55PM

Murphy May 11, 2015 01:57PM

Eric Prothero (n/t)

HairyOrangutan May 11, 2015 01:15PM

+1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 interwebs. NT

Frosty May 11, 2015 12:56PM

Ged (n/t)

silatar May 11, 2015 12:18PM

BattleCharmed May 11, 2015 08:15AM

Mat Cauthon is a good pick. (n/t)

Matrik May 11, 2015 01:37PM

Yeah, I don't know what makes them that great?

Sam May 11, 2015 12:10PM

Drizzt always seemed poorly thought-out to me. What was it about his background that made him Good, other than author fiat? (n/t)

Murphy May 11, 2015 01:42PM

That's what I actually loved most about Drizzt, the character was NOT thought out at all. He made it up on the spot in a conversation with whoever was in charge of TSR at the time, who wanted more characters to fight along side the badass Wulfgar.

Frosty May 11, 2015 05:04PM

That's because Wulfgar plays second fiddle to Regis. (n/t)

Matrik May 11, 2015 05:15PM

When halflings fuck up, they really fuck up.

Frosty May 11, 2015 05:40PM

IIRC he wasn't. It was a slow progression.

Matrik May 11, 2015 01:44PM

Always thought it was implied he made all the decisions that defined his alignment long before the left the Underdark.

Murphy May 11, 2015 01:50PM

Eh, he rejected his whole culture after the raid on the surface

zannon May 12, 2015 03:49AM

Homeland, Sojourn and Exile was what I read.

Murphy May 12, 2015 12:03PM

Jaraxle and Artemis Entreri are both better "characters" than Drizz't.

Sam May 12, 2015 08:22AM

...and Belwar Dissengulp and Dinin Do'Urden both beat J and A.E.... okay, maybe not Jarlaxle. (n/t)

The Faithful of Nazmorghul(VIP) May 16, 2015 10:10PM

Ah, could be. I don't recall any of that, so must not have read that portion. (n/t)

Matrik May 11, 2015 05:16PM

Mat is not Robin Hood. Wash your mouth out with soap. (n/t)

Matrik May 11, 2015 01:37PM

It has to be Pwent
