I'd suggest The Plague by Camus and Animal Dreams by Kingsolver in place of what you've selected. I haven't read The Fall, but I really liked The Plague. I preferred Animal Dreams over Poisonwood BIble.

If there were one book I'd suggest for your next I would say one of the two by the author Orhan Pamuk: My Name is Red (my favorite) or Snow (more critically-acclaimed and still excellent).

Blindness by Jose Saramago is good for the apocalyptic bent

An easy and funny read is The Santa Land Diaries (I think) by David Sedaris. It's a collection of humorous essays.

Some interesting non-fiction: The Botany of Desire by Michael Pollan.

Some good books to add in no particular order, all from memory over the years

I'll second "Altered Carbon"

I hope you read the next two.

Some of my favorites

Yeah, King is strange in that sometimes I just devour his books, and other times I can't get into them at all. Not sure why that is. nt

Don't feel bad, I've probably read under twenty books all my life. And I'm pretty awesome, right?

Starscream May 29, 2009 12:26PM

Heh. A couple of the books on this list really go a long way towards explaining your psychology. I'll definitely try Foucault's Pendulum, thanks. nt

Splntrd May 29, 2009 02:11PM

Yeah, but you're only like 14. You've been reading for about 6 years. nt

I knew it.
