Why your argument wont work in the real world

July 28, 2010 07:27AM
The reason why your argument doesnt work is because of a documented history of oppression and racism that still goes on today.

Just to say 'let everything be based on income' ignores the fact that the majority of people in this country are white and tend to from what still goes on today and what has been documented throughout history can and will 'look out for their own' first and foremost, EEOC rules/laws be damned.

Thus having things 'set-aside' (which is what programs like this are) is a guarentee that at least a FEW minorities will be able to get through the door because without those set asides the vast majority of minorities simply have no means to fight against white power.

In your world we would simply do away with affirmative action and you could get a scholarship and in my world the very next day NO minorities would ever be able to get one again because 'money' for scholarships is a limited resource and due to the powers that be being mostly white people who are going to look out for their own first and no longer being bound by law to insure a piece of the pie goes outside their own community - they'd find reasons to make sure more pieces of that pie end up on their side of the table.

This is what has been and would be again for all minorities.

Affirmative Action as I mentioned earleir is a 'band-aid' on an open sore and its obviously not fair for some poor white people but most government programs fail at an individual basis. These prgrams aren't meant to factor in individual lives but attempt to address an overall condition. The condition we are dealing with here is how do you insure that the sheer number of and power of the majority doesn't simply snuff out any opportunity for the minority to stand on a somewhat equal footing competitevly.

Unless you actually have an answer to that then you aren't really saying anything other than you don't give a shit about minorities and their dilemnas and REALITY be damned, HISTORY be damned, whats fair is 'fair' ...even when its not.

Stevers July 26, 2010 04:15AM

Prison should be rehabilitation, not punishment.

Cerunnir(VIP) July 25, 2010 07:19PM

I vote punishment

Moligant July 27, 2010 04:37AM

Here comes Enyuu! Come to share his opinion with the masses!!!

Moligant July 27, 2010 06:29AM

If you want all races to be treated equally, you have to *gasp* treat them equally.

Reason I'm against affirmative action and race-based scholarships...

Death_Claw July 27, 2010 02:11PM

I agree - economic class is the real issue in the US, not race.

NeverMindTheWarlocks July 27, 2010 02:49PM

Yeah but even moreso...

Death_Claw July 27, 2010 04:20PM

Do you live in a house? Was it backed by HUD? What about your college loan? Private or federal?

Death_Claw July 27, 2010 05:20AM

I was actually looking for specifics..

Java July 27, 2010 05:37AM

Death_Claw July 27, 2010 01:51PM

Also just to clarify something - white welfare is a term.

Death_Claw July 27, 2010 01:51PM

Yeah.. if you'd said that first, I might understand.

Java July 28, 2010 12:28AM

Tell you what. This is what needs to happen.

vortexmagus July 27, 2010 09:09AM

You're completely right. I forgot that there's no poor white people. Or rich black people. Fresh Prince of Bel Air be damned. nt

Java July 27, 2010 12:23PM

No, your point makes perfect sense

vortexmagus July 27, 2010 02:18PM

Why your argument wont work in the real world

Moligant July 28, 2010 07:27AM

Yeah, from a pragmatic standpoint I agree with this. n/t

Death_Claw July 28, 2010 10:53AM

That wasn't an argument

vortexmagus July 28, 2010 07:11AM

So if a program just implicitly favors one economic class over another, rather than explicitly, its fine? n/t

Death_Claw July 27, 2010 07:07AM

Whitey's Weekly? Poor choice in magazines. I suscribed to Caucasian Chronicles. n/t

Stevers July 27, 2010 04:36AM

Yeah, let's apply a fine to someone who sells a desired product every day as their job. That'll show 'em. n/t

Stevers July 27, 2010 04:29AM

Tax that shit. That's my motto. n/t

Death_Claw July 27, 2010 05:20AM

Legalize weed? (n/t)

Moligant July 27, 2010 04:14AM

That answer isn't surprising.

Stevers July 27, 2010 04:16AM

Simple option:

istirith July 27, 2010 01:25AM

Yes, there is the option of military and/or community service

vortexmagus July 27, 2010 01:34AM

No there isn't. And hasn't been for quite a while.

Java July 27, 2010 02:03AM

Oh, you're right. My bad.

vortexmagus July 27, 2010 03:12AM

Maybe getting your ass beat down as punishment when you were a kid somehow made you into a better person

vortexmagus July 26, 2010 07:50AM

You're under the mistaken perception that real criminals are "curable".

Death_Claw July 26, 2010 11:41AM

If your argument is true

vortexmagus July 26, 2010 08:30PM

Being liberal doesn't mean you need to believe that you can "save people".

Death_Claw July 26, 2010 09:53PM
