I was watching what passes for news and saw this rich guy who was running for president. He's always been rich; his dad was so rich when he was a kid that he ran for president too. Now this guy, he makes like twenty mil a year, and is probably worth a quarter-billion or so, and his effective tax rate is like half of what mine was even though I was unemployed for four months, made less than 50K, and have virtually no savings.
Now, in my intellectual mind I know that he worked really hard on legally avoiding taxes by donating to charities and shifting income to longer term investments and other rational, not criminal things like that. At the same time it makes me *feel* like it's fucked up that this guy could literally fund a year of my life without making a dent in his yearly spending change and he gets preferential treatment by the tax code and the irs.
I'm not saying that some bitch with food stamps and a newer phone than me isn't fucked up, I just think the scale of graft is much larger on the other side.
