Speaking of insurance. What the fuck is the point?

Matrik June 29, 2012 04:19PM

Medical expenses are the #1 cause of private bankrupcty in the US.

bell July 02, 2012 09:51AM

Yeah

Matrik July 02, 2012 10:03AM

In Finland, car owners have a mandatory traffic insurance.

DurNominator(VIP) July 03, 2012 01:44PM

That's a bit more acceptable. (n/t)

Matrik July 04, 2012 09:11AM

The discount is good for insurance companies too.

DurNominator(VIP) July 04, 2012 09:41AM

Smart. It's too bad when you have liability you can't really get any better discounts here.

Matrik July 04, 2012 09:45AM

These are literally my last four car accidents

Quas July 03, 2012 12:02PM

These all sound preventable to me.

Matrik July 03, 2012 12:39PM

You're talking crazy. How do you prevent some asshole rear ending you at a red light? (n/t)

bell July 03, 2012 02:39PM

Realistically speaking I never see this happen.

RobDarken July 04, 2012 09:12AM

both times I was hit at a red light I had been at full stop for almost a minute before I was hit

Quas July 05, 2012 05:48AM

Yes and no

Matrik July 05, 2012 05:56AM

Sometimes it does happen though. There's nothing you can do when the dumbshit behind you is going 40+mph and not stopping, when, traffic is stopped and you have nowhere to go left or right.

Jib July 04, 2012 11:05AM

It's still not going to completely destroy me or my car.

RobDarken July 04, 2012 11:09AM

My car was destroyed like this. Cars are meant to crumple these days though. (n/t)

Jib July 04, 2012 11:32AM

I believe you.

RobDarken July 04, 2012 11:49AM

honestly, you are too young to accuratly gauge these kinds of risk

Quas July 05, 2012 05:52AM

You're too old to gauge these things.

RobDarken July 05, 2012 10:20AM

You do know that most policies have 15/25 limits right?

jegec July 05, 2012 09:55AM

depends on your coverage, if your car is financed you are forced to buy more coverage most of the time

Quas July 05, 2012 10:07AM

Not enough coverage to matter in the case of a $1 million judgement against you

jegec July 05, 2012 12:20PM

$1 million dollar bill? (n/t)

Matrik July 05, 2012 05:56AM

see healthcare cost issue, or god forbid you destroy public property, you see what the bill on union labor to fix that stuff is like? (n/t)

Quas July 05, 2012 06:40AM

This seems a bit backwards compared to your argument below and above.

Matrik July 05, 2012 07:12AM

especially neck stuff can result in lifelong treatment at a chiro, it adds up (n/t)

Quas July 05, 2012 06:41AM

It's called defensive driving. This is exactly what I'm talking about. People don't know how to drive safely. You think it's a must to be bumper to bumper at a red light?

Matrik July 04, 2012 09:07AM

Defensive Driving.

wrathpuppet July 04, 2012 09:56AM

Let me add a little something here too

Matrik July 04, 2012 10:43AM

I'll run with this.

wrathpuppet July 04, 2012 10:58AM

No, that is why fiscally irresponsible, bad drivers should have insurance. That isn't why I should be forced to have insurance.

Matrik July 04, 2012 11:57AM

New York City is probably tough.

Matrik July 04, 2012 10:15AM

Subways and what-not.

wrathpuppet July 04, 2012 10:52AM

Taking the logical fallacy high ground is funny when it's in response to you doing it yourself.

RobDarken July 04, 2012 11:04AM

I couldn't have said it better. (n/t)

Matrik July 04, 2012 11:45AM

And I'm not really "taking the high ground."

wrathpuppet July 04, 2012 11:15AM

Re: And I'm not really "taking the high ground."

RobDarken July 04, 2012 11:25AM

Something else you'll notice about logical fallacies

RobDarken July 04, 2012 11:38AM

It all comes down to the nature of the conversation.

wrathpuppet July 04, 2012 11:48AM

All of my close friends have aspergers.

RobDarken July 04, 2012 12:00PM

Dio's is an interesting case.

wrathpuppet July 04, 2012 12:17PM

Did you see any of my posts as insults?

Matrik July 04, 2012 12:25PM

Oh, not at all.

wrathpuppet July 04, 2012 12:31PM

You got me.

Matrik July 04, 2012 12:55PM

I'm not going to break down a joke for you, but we all have off-days.

wrathpuppet July 04, 2012 11:36AM

It's still a vague and unhelpful term. (n/t)

wrathpuppet July 04, 2012 11:14AM

So is gun safety.

RobDarken July 04, 2012 11:28AM

The point is...

wrathpuppet July 04, 2012 11:38AM

I don't delight in it.

Matrik July 04, 2012 11:53AM

Because it's "insurance."

wrathpuppet July 04, 2012 12:10PM

Except I don't need or want it.

Matrik July 04, 2012 12:17PM

you do need it, you don't want it

Quas July 05, 2012 06:38AM

I don't need. However, this is finally an argument that makes sense.

Matrik July 05, 2012 07:07AM

On second thought...

Matrik July 05, 2012 07:26AM

Here's why you need it.

wrathpuppet July 04, 2012 12:26PM

Ok, so it comes down to a matter of differing opinions on policy.

Matrik July 04, 2012 12:48PM

Have you installed the tow hitch?

DurNominator(VIP) July 04, 2012 10:09AM

stupid tow hitches, I HATE THEM!!!!

Quas July 05, 2012 10:16AM

A story about batman, myself, and tow hitches.

Stevers July 05, 2012 10:30AM

Ugh, yeah, you had accidentaly the whole circle.

Batman July 05, 2012 10:34AM

Tow hitch will just get stolen. (n/t)

wrathpuppet July 04, 2012 10:14AM

Even if you weld it in place? (n/t)

DurNominator(VIP) July 04, 2012 10:14AM

No, but now you're getting into the realm of "more trouble than it's worth." (n/t)

wrathpuppet July 04, 2012 10:16AM

Have you tried selling your car and riding the bus instead? (n/t)

DurNominator(VIP) July 04, 2012 10:19AM

If I lived in an area with decent public transportation (heck, even long-distance trains or whatever), I would absolutely keep my car locked up 85% of the time. NT

Batman July 05, 2012 03:14AM

Well, not so much the bus.

wrathpuppet July 04, 2012 10:34AM

Also, you yourself said you don't even report some stuff. So why even have insurance? (n/t)

Matrik July 04, 2012 10:37AM

Really?

wrathpuppet July 04, 2012 10:54AM

... I'm not saying you are stupid for having insurance or that insurance is a bad idea. I'm saying I shouldn't be legally mandated to have it. (n/t)

Matrik July 04, 2012 11:58AM

Yet again, why do I have to pay insurance for the ultra rare guy that gets cancer despite lack of any exposure to carcinogens? (n/t)

Matrik July 04, 2012 10:37AM

Exactly. Because you are lazy, I have to pay car insurance. (n/t)

Matrik July 04, 2012 10:16AM

Slow down well in advance when you see the red light in stead of stopping abruptly in the red lights.

DurNominator(VIP) July 03, 2012 09:11PM

Re: Slow down well in advance when you see the red light in stead of stopping abruptly in the red lights.

Jib July 03, 2012 10:03PM

Good timing is when the light changes in to green well before you reach the crossroads.

DurNominator(VIP) July 04, 2012 12:34AM

Simple. Avoid red lights.

Splntrd July 03, 2012 07:25PM

In two of these instances the car was parked.

wrathpuppet July 03, 2012 12:56PM

Only one is parked. At least, how I read it.

Matrik July 04, 2012 09:10AM

There's a better reason to leave space anyway.

RobDarken July 04, 2012 09:15AM

Or if some other asshole is speeding up behind you and doesn't appear to have time to stop.

Matrik July 04, 2012 09:16AM

I don't pay enough attention to this to want to take a stance but,

RobDarken July 04, 2012 09:18AM

further, its called insurance for a reason, if you actually do get hit for something monstrous without insurance your financial life is essentially over permanently (n/t)

Quas July 03, 2012 01:23PM

Define monstrous? What could possibly happen to ruin a responsible person financially while driving a car? (n/t)

Matrik July 04, 2012 09:12AM

Your from California? n/t

jmc July 02, 2012 05:39PM

No. Why? (n/t)

Matrik July 02, 2012 07:22PM

Car insurance is mandatory in CA (I'm from CA). Just wondering n/t

jmc July 02, 2012 07:44PM

Oh. Thought it was everywhere. Texas, Arizona, and GA for sure. (n/t)

Matrik July 03, 2012 05:56AM

Nah. Not a federal law n/t

jmc July 03, 2012 11:14AM

Some states have opt out mechanisms, but my understanding was that every state generally mandated drivers have some sort of insurance. Am I wrong? (n/t)

bell July 03, 2012 02:37PM

New Hampshire does not. (n/t)

ExPaladin(VIP) July 03, 2012 02:39PM

don't be mad at the insurance company, they only pay 40% of the billed price, be mad at providers for being so expensive

Quas July 02, 2012 10:45AM

Oh for sure.

Matrik July 02, 2012 11:07AM

insurance is a lot like scholarships

The Forsaken(VIP) July 02, 2012 10:31AM

Have you tried negotiating rates with your provider?

Quas June 30, 2012 05:59PM

hmm I'll have to look into that (n/t)

Matrik July 01, 2012 06:41AM

Its none of my business but with your perscription being that much have you looked into purchasing via mexico or canada? If its non-narcotic at least. (n/t)

kanye June 29, 2012 06:46PM

Yeah, unfortunately no generics. I've researched quite a bit. There are alternatives, but they aren't reliable and have some potentially bad side effects. The only things I could find were scams. (n/t)

Matrik June 29, 2012 09:14PM

I dont know what the condition is but is there anyway possible you could connect it to service. Or any injury/illness for that matter. I collect 30% for ptsd so the va pays for all my scripts regardless if they are for service connected. (n/t)

kanye June 30, 2012 02:47PM

Nah, but thanks for the help. It's not a huge deal or even that bad of an ailment. Just blew my mind when I saw the insurance doesn't do shit. (n/t)

Matrik June 30, 2012 02:56PM

Well I hope it doesnt drag you down with the cost. Also, congratulations on the baby! How far along are you? What are you hoping for a boy or a girl? Dont forget to buy he/she a lvl 1 human shirt. (n/t)

kanye June 30, 2012 03:41PM

...... (n/t)

legobelt June 30, 2012 04:09PM

And + CON/WIS booties to maximize gains. (n/t)

Kez June 30, 2012 06:47PM

You're pregnant? (n/t)

Artificial June 29, 2012 05:52PM

Ultrasounds have more than one use, but yes I'm prego. (n/t)

Matrik June 29, 2012 06:14PM

Preggars with a food baby (n/t)

Demtok June 30, 2012 08:51AM

No point

jegec June 29, 2012 05:47PM

That's only true if you save the money that you would normally put into insurance premiums.

Java July 01, 2012 02:28AM

Only if you experience catastrophic injury every 4 years

jegec July 01, 2012 12:13PM

I do!

Matrik July 01, 2012 06:50AM
