I'd guess some sort of astronomical/solar event

December 21, 2012 12:16AM
The sun collapsing. Or exploding. Or maybe some sort of massive solar flare that cooks us.

I don't see any of the other stuff mentioned being able to wipe us all out in one 24-hour period. Nukes could do it, but all of our nukes are aimed in roughly the same places. Most of Africa and South America would survive the first wave, no question. It'd take weeks or longer to wipe them all out in the aftermath.

Aliens could do it. A Deathstar-style laser that explodes the planet in a couple seconds? It could happen, I guess.

Supernatural? I'd call that a distant third in likelihood. Most supernatural events can be countered with a quickly spoken latin phrase, or maybe a wooden stake.. if the Winchester's have taught me anything.

I'm going to miss you guys. Let's hope it ends in a meteor with Aerosmith playing in the background!

Don't really understand the concept but..

istirith December 22, 2012 01:22PM

Did the mayans even use a solar 365.x day calendar like we do?

vortexmagus December 21, 2012 07:15AM

This article covers a good bit of it:

Batman December 21, 2012 07:18AM

I can assure you...

Bendak December 21, 2012 01:19AM

I do not feel assured. You're missing one very important thing:

Rhyaldrin December 21, 2012 01:24AM

Heh, therefore aliens!

daning December 21, 2012 06:07AM

And you're missing two very important descriptors:

Batman December 21, 2012 03:37AM

One of my favorite podcast stories...

Oh boy.

Rhyaldrin December 21, 2012 03:53AM

On another, more paranoid note:

Rhyaldrin December 21, 2012 12:30AM

It's the end of the world as we know it.

Rhyaldrin December 21, 2012 12:25AM

If you think about it, what exactly are the logistics behind the extermination of 100% humanity on the earth within the next 24 hours? What would it really take?

Jib December 20, 2012 08:46PM

I'm much more of an optimist.

istirith December 22, 2012 01:15PM

A neutron star could get randomly flung through our galactic neighborhood. If it passed within the orbit of jupiter the Earth would be torn to shreds.

sevriis December 21, 2012 01:46PM

It's the reaper extermination cycle. nt

The sun hatches. It was a cocoon. Quatzequatel has metamorphosed into Fenrir. nt

I hate to break it to you, but it's too good to be true.
