It was insane. I was playing as Xiahou Yuan, so while my war was DECENT - it was nowhere near Guan Yu's (who is 96-99 depending on the game and the weapon bonus) Zhang Fei (Who I think was 92-96, dependent on game and weapon bonus) and of course the mighty Lu Bu himself - who has 100 despite the game, not even counting the fucking weapon bonus.


So I was running around doing my thing - Actually left Cao Cao's force since I was doing the sage quests trying to up my stats and skills (focusing on trying to get 'taunt' from Mi Heng).

Anyway, so I get over near Xiao Pei and see someone riding out from the city. So I ride up, bein my badass self, to chat. It ends up being L-l-l-l-l-l-u BUUU! So I'm wondering if I should try to get my relationship up with him then I realize - "Wait, if you beat people in duels outside of actual war, you can take items from their inventory similar to if you execute them". So I challenge him to a duel. It was close as balls, but I somehow ended up winning and getting his heavenly halberd - feeling fucking awesome - so I just run around bandit'ing it up with my new +8war. I build a little bandit force of 10,000 and run around as an army feeding off other peoples' lands, training, joining in wars for rewards, etc.

I eventually lose when I challenged Cao Cao again, ended up dead.

Anyway. That is the ONLY time that I can recall ever beating Lu Bu in a 1v1 duel in any ROTK game.


Oh yeah another funny one. From ROTK11 I had Lu Bu on my team and set him as my diplomat (requires intelligence). And if you haven't done 11, the debate minigame style places you and your opponent on these huge rocks from which you exchange statements and arguments, as shown below:



The lines for victory, defeat, instant kill, etc. all change depending on your character's intellect, personality, voice style, etc. So it can vary pretty well and gets amusing very fast.

So there is a small % chance of landing an instant kill at the start of any debate that increases as your intelligence increases - simply by presenting an unbeatable argument from the start.

Right so Lu Bu goes to debate against someone like Pang Tong or some such, I forget which, but they had the clear intellectual advantage. I drop a bellow - which is just screaming at your opponent (seriously, Lu Bu just yelled "NO!") and hurt him bad. Then used frenzy, got Lu Bu angry, and he yelled something to the effect of "YOUR ARGUMENTS ARE AS WEAK AS YOU!" and Pang Tong's rock exploded, leaving Lu Bu the debate victor. It was so dumb but I loved it.
