Or was that rangers or something? Been a while since I played either class. I do recall one situation where a hide in forest could be seen if you actually look for them, but not on the where list or scan or something. Like I said, it's been like 6 years since I recall seeing this.
I'm not in it 100% for the gear. I'm more interested with the challenge. I like learning new things. Always been what keeps me coming back to CF over the past 12 years.
If you enjoy CF or old school Ultima Online and also enjoyed FPS a little, you'll probably like Darkfall. While I kinda hated it for the first four hours, it's become a lot more fun and addicting. Huge fights with swords, arrows, and magic flying all over. Been on a raid with over 90 people riding together to battle. It has it's fair share of issues, but so far it's really fun

Thin means more magic. Vanguard being magic to protect against deathblow and align/ethos. If the veil has to be thick for vanguard to work against deathblow, why would you WANT to thin the veil when it nerfs you?
