There are echoes on backfist similar to something like "As you parry someones *attack* you step inside with your backfist". Anyway it's 100% works on successful parry.
The best instrument for tragic - elf-skin drum. Easy to get solo at hero too. Good for epic too. Likely better than horns.
For romantic - jewel encrusted harp from red-gold dragon.
But you are right that the edge has str requirement. Poor felars can't take it.
Mace is still decent on elves though far from what it used to be before str change to spec. It still don'tdo too well with swords though. Wanna go mace take daggers or spear, maybe hand, as second spec. And obviously no reason to take landslide then.
Even if you go nerve route, the only difference between edged and not edged nerve is some amount of damage which is hardly significant for that tactic. If you want to try to make your opponent to overcommit it's even easier without the edge thus not worth edge points again. It's not the edge that makes nerve situationaly good. It's just the skill in itself.
Which leaves us with 245 PKW in straight melee. Which is more than most of your best so called "non-assassinate" assassins had total. And I didn't say it's not good edge. I only said it's not worth edge points. Not now not back then. Unless you've already picked 6-8 other edges that give you something significant.
And don't understand obsession. Yes, it adds damage to nerve, so what? The skill is good in it's niche. 1 round lag initial move which adds maledicts. Good for chasing flying opponents or further droping opponent's stats after kote/kans landed (if you can't throw). Edge don't make the skill anything more than that while there are tons of assassin edges doing way more.
How about you telling us the number of american people who died of hunger during your Great Depression at the same time as tons of food were destroyed to not low the prices. And let's call it genocide too.

I'll agree with Rhyl that humans do much better assassins than arials, drows and felars. Though I'd say that halfies are not worse. +1 dex here is very big factor as 24 dex is much better than 23 for dodge while 19 and 20 str are almost the same for parry. Also they live somewhat longer. Humans do compensate it somewhat not having vuln themselves and beng able to exploit mithril or iron
