The problem isn't more edges, it is having IMMs be the gatekeepers of edge points

January 16, 2016 11:31AM
Gating mechanical rewards behind IMM approval isn't a good thing.

(1) It increases administrative burden. This increases the workload of IMMs. And when IMMs fail to reward as "expected", players are unhappy.

(2) It increases envy of successful (edge-earning) players. When IMMs reward some player, other players are unhappy.

(3) It reduces predictability of a character build.

The average effect is to increase player unhappiness.

Better to say "no rewards for PKing, and everyone gets edges as if they had gained 50 PKs". Then noobs (who won't hit 50) will gain, and vets (who can hit the 100, or 200 marks) will lose slightly, but vets are going to slaughter noobs even with no edges, so it is not so bad.

Note to IMMORTALS: Give out more IMM exp, like you said you would, and everyone will be happy. That is all.

We need to dissociate rewards from character success or personal fun.

Murphy January 22, 2016 10:50PM

The amount of people trying to farm DESC exp is hilarious to me. Suddenly descriptions need to be divided into chapters. n/t

jalim January 17, 2016 02:31PM

If it provides incentive to people to think out their chars, what's wrong with that? (n/t)

If you get [Hit Return to continue] when you look at someone it's too much. (n/t)

wrathpuppet January 19, 2016 12:20PM

You can avoid that by adjusting in-game scroll with the scroll command. Help scroll for more info while in game. nt

My desc is like that. I didn't even know you could get XP for it :D

I'm not sure IMMxp is the answer. (Crackpot idea within)

As an old-schooler just logging in for first time in months, this idea is great exciting idea- nt-

This is the most creative, reasonable and constructive idea to manage the edge problem I've heard yet. (n/t)

Yeah.

iunna January 17, 2016 12:07PM

better if it only allowed you to give thumbs up....no thumbs down. Then people would spread the vote more wisely. (n/t)

abernyte January 17, 2016 11:41AM

Or get separate votes, e.g. you can do 3 thumb-ups and 3 thumb-downs. (n/t)

Murphy January 17, 2016 05:20PM

You could just do this via pray as it is. (n/t)

The problem isn't more edges, it is having IMMs be the gatekeepers of edge points

starbright January 16, 2016 11:31AM

No, the problem is they SAID they would dole out more IMM exp when they nerfed edge points without actually DOING so.

Frosty January 16, 2016 12:09PM

You should have known they wouldn't... It isn't like this is the first time...

laearrist January 16, 2016 12:45PM

I never expected them too, and griped at the time that they don't have the man(IMM)power to back it up. Alls I'm sayin'zis, I'm just sayin'.

Frosty January 16, 2016 12:51PM

Re: The problem isn't more edges, it is having IMMs be the gatekeepers of edge points

Isildur(VIP) January 16, 2016 11:46AM

I don't dispute that PK edgepoints is bad (promotes bad behaviour and inequality) but IMM rewards are also bad

starbright January 16, 2016 12:29PM

One thing...

Sam January 16, 2016 07:34PM

Automation and objectivity would remove the bad parts I mentioned and I can support what you suggested (n/t)
