sword vs pole

Basically sword offers potentially better 100-0 chances. An 8 hit flurry is hard to beat. But I actually like polearm more than sword for killing stsf.

Most stsf warriors, especially strong ones, are running their wimpy pretty generous specifically to avoid dying to large burst. Unless the stsf warrior has lagged himself, he's probably wimpying out of your flurry. Now granted you can pretty easily wait for him to lag himself to drop the flurry but that's still dependent on him.

On the other hand cutoff gives you a counter to wimpy. Not a great one, granted, but we've all had those fights where we get cutoff 3-4 times in a row. And usually a suited up giant warrior only needs one or two chops to kill elf warrior by the time elf warrior tries to flee.

Also polearm is just super hard to riposte. It's not just the less attacks, it's the nature of the weapon spec. Pole and spear/staff are super hard to riposte. I would take sword over pole for fighting most people but specifically for elf stsf I'm taking pole.

And finally, one of the best ways to win a pk is strong progs because the enemy can't factor it into the game plan. There's inherent strength in good random progs. You have to be quick and a good pker to maximize the effectiveness of the prog(timing your skills to optimize their effectiveness, adjusting your next command based on what just happened etc) but if you are then I don't think you should discredit them. Pincer staff isn't exactly hard to get, neither is thunderlance if you're goodie. I can also think of one or two more area explore/questy polearms with solid progs.

There are few things scarier for stsf I think than an enlarged chopping giant with 70+ damroll and a prog happy pincer staff.

If stsf elf is reticent to burn aura/shield for 1v1s (which they typically are), that's flirting with death every time.

In summary pole might take a bit more skill and game knowledge than sword, and it might lack the wow factor of a flurry, but I'm choosing it if I'm specifically trying to kill elf stsf. Flurries might "win" more fights (make them flee) but I think pole gets you more kills against stsf and also gives you some extra survivability.

Strats against STSF

Reposting my STSF breakdown. Hopefully this helps you out. Primary focuses on warrior v warrior but also includes other class matchups at the end.

Also, Laesron (HTH/Polearm) killed 2 STSF Delfs. Maran Polearm is actually one of the strongest counters to STSF.

Iron/Mithril warcry flurry (n/t)

Kstatida March 11, 2017 11:23AM

If this gets evaded...you likely die before you can successfully flee (unless you have Enigma). Or Flow evaded. Or parry anything parried :) NT

sword vs pole

TheShamanman March 12, 2017 08:04AM

Here's my data on it. My swords specs put up a fight against you, but you ate my pol specs like a hungry shark. CHOMP!

Frosty March 12, 2017 11:23AM

So much truth. Playstyle agreeing with build is worth a lot. (n/t)

TheShamanman March 12, 2017 12:07PM

What if charge and slice get avoided? If it lands, you might win. If it gets evaded/stsfed/flowed/parried you lose. Rocket science! (n/t)

Frosty March 11, 2017 12:41PM

Not really. Polearm defends very well against sword/dagger, plus you will have less attacks so they can't conceal/riposte you into oblivion. NT

Re: you will have less attacks

Murphy March 12, 2017 06:24AM

Defense shmeefence, if you miss you skills you still die just the same. You might have slightly better chances of escaping but also less chance of landing the kill. Pick your poison, alchemy = science! (n/t)

Frosty March 11, 2017 01:59PM

Thunderlance deathblow prog ftw! NT

Frosty March 11, 2017 03:49PM

This is true. (n/t)

Frosty March 11, 2017 11:59AM

One tiny correction! STSF cutoff lags, so they actually can lag you pretty well if you can't recall in combat. NT

Sam March 11, 2017 10:40AM

I mean yeah but only if you're trying to flee. In combat they can't. (n/t)

TheShamanman March 11, 2017 11:07AM

Just saying you need razor-sharp reflexes (or a super good understanding of the game) to know exactly when to bail. NT

Sam March 11, 2017 12:31PM

Or you could get the claw extensions instead for the 8-10 hp. n/t

jalim March 11, 2017 01:01PM

LOL, you funny. Steady hand, number 1. ;) (n/t)

Frosty March 11, 2017 02:01PM

*gives Jalim a "good idea" sticker* NT

This is really good advice, the shamanman knows what he's talking about (n/t)

The only GOOD matchup I've found for STSF builds is a....porcupine. (n/t)

ABS orangutan did alright.

Might slow it down, though. (n/t)
