I'm taking into account vulns when assessing the races overall. Not taking into account vulns of the specific question of "which one is going to get hit the least". For that, I think arial beats human even if arial parries worse.

Generally speaking, the difference in melee defense isn't huge. To me, it's only meaningful with respect to, "How likely am I to die if I try to assassinate this guy, or this guy with his groupmate standing there, and miss." Better melee defense (and evade) make you less likely to die on a miss, unless there are vulns at play.

If you're not trying to assassinate the *probably* you're in trance, so *probably* melee defense doesn't matter so much. The other guy is going to flee or die.
