Imagine you're the felar chief. Are you happy that a paladin just summoned you as a meat shield vs. a blood thirsting barbarian? I doubt it. So if the chief could act, it would likely attack the paladin. Since it doesn't attack the paladin, it's effectively agreeing to help the paladin. Associating with evil.
The paladin is quite literally teaming up with an evil being to fight evil. Whether it is voluntary or not doesn't matter. Associating with evil.
Do you think it's ok for a Maran conjurer to summon and use a demon/devil? Would this same situation be ok if the paladin was summoning some sort of demon? No in all cases.
As for paladins hunting evil mobs? They absolutely should and do hunt evil mobs. You can't be simultaneously killing all evil at all times, so you pick what's closest and most efficient. This whole Ghaelek argument seems kind of dumb. It's simply not the same as summoning evil to team up with.
Doesn't matter how you spin it. Summoning an evil mob to help you fight someone is teaming up in such a way that violates the paladin's code. It's the whole point of that rule.
