What I often use.

The must have preps, especially if caballed:

Potions:

Recall (normally at least 2. One in a container + one in inventory.)
Teleport (As above but with 1 or 2 more in a container.)
Flight (At least 5 in container.)
Water breathing (x3 usually in seaweed form)
Enlarge (4 or 5 especially with classes without bash protection and in other situations)
Reduce (one or two)
*Invis (one or two)
*Detect invis (many)
**Aura
**Shield
**Barrier
**Slow

Quantities for low strength characters. Might carry more with warriors.

Other various preps if time/opportunity/situation affords or requires:

Stoneskin (A few - many)
Protection (As above)
Haste
Metabolic quickening
Cure blindness
Cure disease
Cure deafness

Random other preps that I might use from time to time if I stumble across them. Only against an enemy I am sure I'll need it for. Some preps are rare/hard to obtain

Resist cold
Resist heat
Resist lightning
Resist mental
Resist negative
Puissance
Tenacity
Frenzy
Resist metals
Anti-magic shield
Giant strength
Dragon strength
Spiderhands
Detect evil
Detect magic
Refresh
Heal
Satiate

And many more

The majority are not even necessary to prep with in this third section. I'd only consider these if I had access to them or if I needed them for an excessively tough fight tactics-wise. I wouldn't go out of my way to gather these. I wouldn't go out of my way to gather most of those in section two either unless they gave a specific tactical advantage. I've included these to give you an idea of what preps exactly are out there if you wish to explore for them.

Some progged gear/wands/staves/scrolls will give you other preps. Almost all of the preps here are edible/quaffable.

*If not already a class spell/skill/supp
**With mages. Easily done by level 30-35. Consider barrier as a must have by hero. Also carry staves of recall/teleport with mages too.

_Magus_ April 14, 2008 07:38AM

They're pretty much right, though, for the most part.

Isildur(VIP) April 14, 2008 08:11AM
