I understand your point about WoT, but imo there's a difference between being (extremely) long winded and profit motivated. I feel like Jordan let the story get away from him more than he affirmatively intended to maximize his monetary take from the story. I don't really know, though, just a gut feeling. I don't know much about RJ, partially b/c he didn't become a media darling a la Rowling, which is one of the reasons I think JK might have been more about the benjamins, if you will. Add to that I've never seen a WoT movie/action figure/lunchbox/etc, and I've never heard any news about RJ or his estate suing to prevent lexicons or dictionaries or the like from being published (which doesn't mean it hasn't happened, I haven't been following copyright law as long as WoT has been around), and I just get the impression that the two author's motivations were at least somewhat different. To me, if RJ was truly profit motivated, his agent/publisher/someone is guilty of an epic phail for not expanding the brand way beyond a dozen or so books.
