I don't have my heart set on it happening, but I think shield + aura is necessary to go against melee classes.

October 10, 2009 07:53PM
Assuming your mage has around 700 hp, nothing big, though it means your drow needs to be loaded with at least 2 or 3 pieces of high quality HP gear that are most certainly going to disappear when he dies. Still 700 HP is a reasonable number.

Without any outstanding extra protections (stone skin, prot vs. align/element/metals) I think shield and aura at the very least are necessary to compete, especially with Landslide remaining as popular as it is. Conjurers need time for their servitors to get their thumbs out of their asses, shapeshifters that tank with their faces aren't going to outdamage a warrior or assassin, and transmuters are nigh useless using their innate dam redux if it means they can be tripped to death. (though I still don't think malleability was ever necessary to add to the class, it's what makes the higher level battles against neuro anywhere from painful to hopeless if you aren't geared in top quality saves gear and can't parry staff)

Now, of course, that's only talking about normal 1v1 pk. For cabal raiding, unless you bring overwhelming force, you need all three, and if you're solo it probably still isn't going to cut it against certain inners (read: Primeval Spirit, Watcher and Nexan inners) without regen.

If your HP total goes up or down, the need for all three changes (with mages sporting 1k or more HP having the margin for error and RNG to forego aura, and newbie mages sporting 500ish or less HP with around +100 in HP gear have a definite need for all three plus a well thought out plan)

Mages sporting 1k+ HP using shield and aura are hard to kill. Unprepped warriors or your run of the mill bard are not, unless you forgot your resist mental prep and got distorted, which is a different balance discussion altogether.

Having had Kasir remove 33% of that 40%ish dam redux using silver malison, it is indeed important and necessary. Otherwise don't bother ranking beyond 40 and don't kid yourself about ever killing any leader chars, paladins, druids and shifters with high mobility, to say nothing of giant sword warrior.

Strangeness of ABS

hug October 09, 2009 08:18AM

In retrospect, one of the worst things about the ABS system in my opinion

istirith October 11, 2009 01:01AM

Actually. Just read a thread on the officials with similar solutions.

istirith October 11, 2009 05:06AM

Yes - the IMMs could remove wands from all the "old" circulated locations, making the prior OOC lists useless.

Re: Yes - the IMMs could remove wands from all the "old" circulated locations, making the prior OOC lists useless.

Isildur(VIP) October 11, 2009 05:16AM

I agree with all though I think aura is needed too (n/t)

I don't have my heart set on it happening, but I think shield + aura is necessary to go against melee classes.

Scrimbul October 10, 2009 07:53PM

Two protections + inherent ones is more or less enough to fight decent melee warrior from my experience.

dervish October 10, 2009 11:27PM

I'm fine with the abs system.

alansmithee October 10, 2009 01:44PM

Who are you and what did you do with Graatch?

Jib October 10, 2009 02:28PM

My take...

lightmage October 10, 2009 08:03AM

Like it. This idea goes along with mages getting castable shield. Or questable through archmage? dunno. (n/t)

randomthinker October 10, 2009 10:08AM

I like this idea. As long as to get 'older' doesn't mean hiding in some out of the way place spamming spells and adding hours. (n/t)

smashtro October 10, 2009 08:27AM

You don't want my level 11 invoker with 350 hours kicking your ass with ABS? ~

VoiceOfReason October 10, 2009 09:32AM

Obviously....

lightmage October 10, 2009 12:00PM

I consider the ABS change...

Mek October 09, 2009 07:51PM

It's definitely limited my char ideas... which sucks. ABS makes the game more of a chore. Lame.

randomthinker October 10, 2009 10:12AM

You mean ragers rule now, idiot?

Dwoggurd October 10, 2009 08:58AM

Dwoggurd

Isildur(VIP) October 10, 2009 05:45AM

Uh

Mek October 10, 2009 10:59AM

As I put down below...

torak October 10, 2009 07:41AM

I must say that

Illiet October 10, 2009 01:23PM

This is the point.

istirith October 11, 2009 12:20AM

I know the spot and I thought it was one of the not too hard ones.

Auzaar October 10, 2009 03:21PM

To be fair...

TheBard October 10, 2009 01:38PM

Except

Illiet October 11, 2009 12:13AM

Unfortunately for you its a fact not an opinion :> (n/t)

TheBard October 11, 2009 12:51AM

I vouch for him, he does solo pk, even against multiple enemies.

istirith October 11, 2009 01:18AM

Re: I vouch for him, he does solo pk, even against multiple enemies.

Illiet October 11, 2009 01:35AM

I don't mean conservative in the sense that you're a pussy.

istirith October 11, 2009 01:56AM

Yep you are right

Illiet October 11, 2009 02:07AM

but

Illiet October 11, 2009 01:01AM

Wow, thats really cocky. You know youre not the toughest lich ever right?

Tweedster October 11, 2009 09:11AM

Even if I were the toughest lich

Illiet October 11, 2009 12:48PM

Dopple was perhaps the scariest part of Zorszaul

ExPaladin(VIP) October 11, 2009 02:27PM

Yeah, they should just completely remove ABS

VoiceOfReason October 10, 2009 08:34AM

Yup~

torak October 09, 2009 09:28PM

The same

jad_hoven October 09, 2009 08:03PM

On a side note

pendragon_surtr October 09, 2009 07:40PM

Actually, it seems their repop timer is a bit longer than kill mob;leave area;come back kill mob. It's now kill mob, wait 5-10 minutes, kill mob again. NT

KennyPowers October 09, 2009 08:36PM

I think it's 24 hours, at least for ones that come from a container.~

ibuki October 09, 2009 08:38PM

24 ticks for sleek to respawn.

crafteddeception October 09, 2009 08:43PM

It was someone else's rod. You may stack as much rods as you wish (n/t)

I've played two.

Java October 09, 2009 05:23PM

You know...

TheBard October 09, 2009 06:04PM

I'm basing my opinion primarily on the whines of those players.

Java October 10, 2009 06:18AM

Now if only someone would say the same to these assholes about empowerment. You, my good sir, win. nt

Scrimbul October 10, 2009 06:09AM

You know what.

istirith October 10, 2009 06:30AM

Re: You know what.

Scrimbul October 10, 2009 01:05PM

I still play, just within pretty intense time restraints.

istirith October 11, 2009 12:04AM

PS.

deriveh October 09, 2009 01:14PM

I know I will get flamed for this, but...

Noone of significance October 09, 2009 11:02AM

I somewhat agree with you. Meaning I used to be like this...

Jib October 10, 2009 02:39PM

It's nothing to do with not knowing them....

torak October 09, 2009 12:59PM

They need to bring back the old hobgoblins. I miss purple potions. nt

nodak October 09, 2009 09:36AM

No... shit.. Scott? n/t

Someone Not Special, Esquire October 09, 2009 11:29PM

This matches my experience...

That last paragraph made no sense.

Re: That last paragraph made no sense.

bored October 10, 2009 10:52AM

Yup, there is

torak October 09, 2009 08:34AM

Dude, the whole playerbase NEVER knew most of the spots.

Java October 09, 2009 11:09AM

Yep, seems right.

WarEagle October 09, 2009 01:59PM

I'm sorry you have no friends. :( nt

Cosimo October 09, 2009 11:42AM

By friends, do you mean strangers that talk to me online about a text-based RPG? nt
